he plays 27 MPG+

he was 5th in MPG on the team

Maybe spend that money on a starting PG who can play more than 25 mpg.

i'd be disappointed if Wolves don't come out with PG upgrade, it was crippling last year

either Randle's or DDV salary slots still can be worked with potentially, we'll see what Randle does

I mean if we believe that they offered gobert ++ for durant, then resigned Naz, drafted 2 more centers.

Wolves fans may disagree, but I see gobert being traded. Id imagine they want another center in return, but probably a cheaper one.

Really like something involved reaves + contracts. Flipping the contracts + dillingham for a center.

Even for a '5th best player' (which seems about where Reid is for Minny) this feels slightly high. $20M/yr seems more like '5th best player on a good team' money in the current cap/tax lines.

Though with cap/tax levels increasing by the end of the deal $25M/yr will be reasonable. So perhaps $22.5M/yr would be where I'd put his value. A mild overpay with some potential downside due to the length if something bad happens.

Where does it rank? This is 3-bigs making 87 Million next year (Dropping down to 68 next year).

Denver's make 99 Million.

Haven't checked the rest, but something to think about. We will be over 89 next year with Siakam/Turner/Toppin.

Klomp wrote:I get it, being it's a league-wide board we're on, but it's very obvious there is a gap in understanding of who Naz Reid is and what he means to the Minnesota franchise.

It's easy to look from afar and think it's a lot of money for a bench player.....and maybe it is. But

The biggest thing to understand is that he is a cult hero in Minnesota. He is more of a fan favorite in this market than Anthony Edwards.

When people with the organization talk about core building blocks for the future, it is Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid. They put their money where their mouths are too. Remember Jaden was the guy the Minnesota front office refused to include in the Rudy Gobert trade, even though he hadn't even been a full-time starter to that point. And they ended up signing him to a 5/131 deal.

I don't necessarily think it's an issue with the player or the money, but rather the roster composition. Spending nearly $91M on 3 bigs isn't exactly smart when it comes roster construction. It seems like the writing is on the wall that either Julius Randle or Rudy Gobert's days in Minnesota are numbered. My guess is Randle, but they did just draft two centers.

If Ant continues to improve his playmaking, this may be a moot point.

Nah - Rudy will mentor Beringer for 2-3 years. If anything, this just makes Randle more expendable.

I believe its beyond ANT improving, there just needs to be another dynamic player/creator on the court, which is easiest to be found at guard positions

I disagree. More and more teams are putting playmaking responsibilities into the hands of their best players, regardless of whether they are a PG or not. If Ant simply learns (and is willing!) to throw Rudy lobs, he adds another reliable scorer AND makes scoring easier for himself. Other players will improve with Ant’s added passing, and I think the KAT trade considered the NYK-version of DDV to be Ant’s back court mate. And the Wolves may already have that dynamic player/creator soon in Dillingham.

I don't know how you could have watched the OKC series and thought that ANT's mediocre vision/passing was a bigger issue than that the Wolves have so little creation at other positions

but yes, maybe Dillingham is the answer

For anyone curious, Gerson Rosas was the GM who drafted Ant and Jaden and signed Naz to a two way then promoted him. This was not TC it was Gerson Rosas. It is fact frequently forgotten on the Wolves board.

I would take Gordon/Jokic over Gobert/randle or towns...

Yup. But then Minnesota's wings crush Denver's. That's the point, no team is perfect at every position.

We were incredibly balanced, same with Cleveland and Boston and OKC.

considering guard's have the ball most of the time, and most frontcourt players are dependent on the guards creating something
its an issue

i still miss how balanced the raptors 2019 team was. I dont think OKC's front court was that great. Holmgren was a bit lackluster. They got away with too much physicality from their wing/guards. Indiana was a great example of sum > parts though.
