Could probably save $3 million if we just made him an assistant coach.

Need Dhackett to weigh in on this, but it seems like bringing back Temple points to good things about the Raps being willing to flirt with the tax line this season

He only counts as $2m towards cap

League reimburses difference of these vet minimum deals

On Spotrac they got it as a cap hit of 2.3. That brings us to 12 guaranteed contacts plus our two rookies. Assuming no trades, we should have room for only those 14 under the tax. There might be some room to carry either Lawson or Castleton(or someone else) into the season Bruno Fernando style as a 15th man since they are both non-guaranteed until January 10th.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

you can have 20 on the roster before the season starts then 17 by opening night.

still have a full summer of trades that can happen.

Rosters are 17 players? Is that including the 3 2ways?

we have like 8 guys on rookie deals. a bunch of them 21 and younger. it's a minimum 15th man deal.

I would hope guys like Yak, Ingram and Scottie could lead at this point. Even RJ and Quick are young vets. I guess these guys aren't mature enough.

Not everyone is a leader. Look at KD, he’s a top 20 player of all time and he still can’t lead a team for ****.

Those guys can be on court leaders but off the court? That’s a different ball game.

People who have never been in a locker room expose themselves in moments like these.

How can anyone watch James Johnson in IND and not see the impact

It’s a minimum deal.. unless we don’t carry a 15th man we’re paying it.

Already we have

Barnes 1
Ingram 2
Quickley 3
Barrett 4
Poeltl 5
Agbaji 6
Gradey 7
Ja'Kobe 8
Murray-Boyles 9 (Unsigned but it’s a formality)
Shead 10
Mogbo 11
Temple 12
Battle 13 (get guaranteed on July 1st)
Castleton 14 (non guaranteed)
Lawson 15 (non guaranteed)
Martin (unsigned)
Chomche (2w)
Chuck (2w)
Rhoden (2w)

-I am assuming that Battle stays but one or both of Castleton and Lawson get waived?

-Maybe Rhoden is waived and Martin only gets a 2w?

-Do we start the season over the tax (and duck it on trade deadline )?

- Do we make a trade to gets below ?

- Do we add a veteran minimum back up C ?

While Temple is a no brainer for the culture , for some reason it’s surprise me. But definitely the right move for the vibes !

I thought the bolded was a given, but we just used up that Veteran Minimum money on Temple no?

This is why I am a bit surprised with Temple returning .

Unless RJ is really getting traded during the off season ?

Blake Murphy was saying on Twitter that we can only sign a minimum salary player or make a trade, but other than that we’re pretty much done. So if we get a backup C it will probably be another minimum salary one who isn’t very good like a Castleton lol. Maybe that Clifford guy looks good and we sign him. Idk. But if it’s not a trade it probably won’t be a very good back up C

Yes I was looking at last year numbers

Cap hit is 2 year minimum and league reimburses team difference

Next year it is $2.296m

True but the guarantee money stays in the luxury tax calculations

sure he stabilizes the locker room as a father figure. this pretty much confirmed no big moves are gonna happen this offseason. disappointing but understandable as well given the current instability

I'm surprised, I didn't expect to see Temple back. As a 15th guy on the roster, it doesn't really matter, but I'd rather have a guy like Lawson around. Barring further moves, I'm assuming Temple gets Lawson's spot. They will also likely want to find a center for a minimum contract who is an upgrade on Castleton. I'll suggest Charles Bassey.

Quickley / Shead / Temple
Barrett / Agbaji / Walter / Martin
Ingram / Dick / Battle
Barnes / CMB / Mogbo
Poeltl / *Bassey

If they could trade Agbaji, Dick, or Walter for a backup center that has similar value, that would really help balance the roster out.

OKC was lucky that their vet was also a key contributor in caruso

Okay but they got to the finals when no one thought they would and who knows what would have happened if Tyrese didn’t get injured. Like to make the standard being you have to win a championship for locker room vets to matter is a little disingenuous

1/18 spots, we can live with that.

Doesn’t this put us almost exactly at the tax? We don’t even have a backup C yet.

Ed “Masai is too expensive” Rogers is now going to pay the tax for a 7th seed? It feels like there has to be more roster moves coming.

I think it's the same thing as pointing to the vet and saying look at that impact, as he sits on the bench and puts his arm around young guys.

Some teams need guys like that sure. From our perspective as fans, we really don't know how much it's benefitting these guys or not. Garret has played 31 playoff games in his career and averaged 2.5 points. We won how many games last year? I'm not convinced he's crucial, I would rather have a young guy in that spot and expect the vets that actually play and my coaches to lead the team.
