A minor consolation prize if it turns out that way, but Jerome has had to start and face good defenders before; but perhaps none that have bothered to scout and prepare for him?

The thing is we see this sort of thing even with stars on the rise - the question becomes whether Jerome can adjust to the adjustments, and whether anyone wants to pay to find out given his limited athletic profile?

Oh, that was rhetorical. I know your answer.

The tax bill on a Ty Jerome and/or Sam Merrill extension is going to be astronomical. Cavs are sitting at $210M in active salaries - that alone projects to a $57M tax bill. Unless they can cut salary elsewhere - adding $14M to their salaries will cost them an additional $84M in luxury tax. (is my math right?) Yikes

Dan Gilbert is worth $25 billion, that is peanuts to him. If Ty wants to stay, they will figure it out.

I assume Ty and Merrill leave this summer to get paid more with other teams.

I'm sure they'll look to cut salary elsewhere if they decide to resign him. I re-did the calculation and assuming no other cuts I think it's actually closer to $78M. $92M ($14M salary + $78M luxury tax) is a lot of money to resign Ty Jerome. I don't care how rich you are.

Gilbert paid scrubs like JR 'soup' Smith, Tristan Kardashian, and Shump money is not a factor.

I 100% guarantee the Cavs do not look to cut salary this summer if they re-sign TJ. They knew what they were doing. You have a 2 or 3 year window here then reassess.

The bigger issue is the 2nd apron restrictions make team building difficult but with or without TJ, Cavs are a 2nd apron team next season.

That is hard to leave if money is equal.

If he does leave, it's for a real shot at a starting role OR significantly more money than the Cavs offer, AND a team with real contending aspirations.

I want the Magic to get him, but you have to wonder if this is a 1yr fluke, or if not having the comforts he has now, will negativity impact him. Would he accept the 6th man role on another team?
Gonna bring this up.

What do we think Ty goes for now?

Mavs could use him while Kyrie is out.

I personally think he wants both.

Kings make sense.

Hawks are rumored but he won't start.

Dallas is rumored but they probably opt for D'Lo.

Hornets are probably out after the Sexton trade.

Jazz are in play.

Magic waived Moe, so technically could.

Nets drafted like 3 or 4 PGs so probably not them unless a couple are stashed.

Pistons but Ty hates jb's coaching.

He wont agree to the mini MLE to go to DAL, when the full MLE may be available to him.

Also, DEN/MIA/MIL etc. may be interested. Player like Jerome in the full MLE range of salary will have lots of suiters in the market.

I read Denver last month when the Cavs were eliminated but not much since.

The latest rumor is the Grizzlies, obviously wouldn't start but maybe they can pay him, unsure on their cap situation.

Houston could have cap space depending on what they do with FVV.

Orlando is the only team that makes sense to me. But I'd be hesitant giving him starting minutes.
