I like the Garza pick up. Why not take a chance on Minott during a lost season?

His defensive woes began after he was drafted, before Rob was even playing for overtime elite.winforlose wrote:shangrila wrote:winforlose wrote:
Garza is a mascot who I was glad we got rid of. He went in for 2 minutes to end a half and got scored on literally every single possession with defense that went way beyond bad. He was actually setting screens for ball handlers he was so inept. Minott on the other hand is a legit 9th man on a good rotation. Our coach had beef with him and played a lot of mind games to undermine his confidence and then benched him when he started to struggle. To be fair Finch did this to Dillingham, Clark, Shannon, and Miller (though he played Garza over Miller,) which is why some Wolves fans want Finch fired. I think if your coach gives Minott a fair shake you will be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, this is just incorrect.
Minott is a guy who cannot or does not play defence. He's too upright so constantly gets beaten 1 on 1, and his awareness in a team setting is low if not non-existent. This was true back when he was playing in the G League as well so its not just an NBA thing. For a guy as athletic as he is it's unacceptable. And this is the main reason he wasn't able to get consistent minutes for the Wolves; he got them early in the season but the defence just wasn't there, and that's the requirement for a guy like him on the Wolves these days.
The offence, or specifically the shooting, took a step forward this season. And he's a decent finisher all things considered, so that's a plus. His screens aren't great though and his handle is nothing to write home about.
Your hope is that he probably becomes something like a less athletic Obi Toppin. Just someone that can finish plays and hit 3s every once in a while. And I'm sure he'll be capable of putting up numbers in a bigger role, but I'm also sure he won't be contributing to winning while doing so.
Fun fact, Minott’s defensive woes began in earnest after he lost his rotation spot to Dilly when the ankle healed. His plus minus and overall game impact was good before that. The loss of minutes followed by half rotations and constant benching (usually after one mistake,) was what undermined him. Time will tell who is right, assuming Minott even gets on the court for Boston.

He'll make an exciting play every once in a while on offense, but he's got no clue what's going on defensively and isn't an overly sound offensive player yet either. Best of luck to him in Boston. But there's a reason he ended the year behind tsj and Clark.

Huh? When did you see him playing the 5?
He's a 3/4 combo forward that isn't particularly bulky. Short of matching up with another team going micro small I can't see him having much success as a 5.
Don't really remember, I don't follow the Wolves, maybe against the Lakers? That's my memory of him..

Never be suspicious on MIN fans on their comments on the former MIN players. MIN still have roster space to fill in, yet they still give up on Minott and Garza, there must be some logic underneath. IMO, I also cant understand what BOS is doing, as there are sill some better choice in the FA market for minimum salary.

This just isn’t the case. He’d miss a rotation or two here and there, especially once Finch started pulling him immediately after but otherwise he grew considerably as a POA defender and he’s a solid help defender. I watched a ton of his Iowa games and usually came away impressed with his defense. Calling his defense his issue is so far from the truth.
