fine. let's waste another season, with out easiest chance ever to make the finals on the line, on realizing that what he gives up defensively at the 5 isn't worth what you gain offensively.
he had the highest NET rating of any player on the team for the regular season and playoffs...playing mostly the 5...I'm not really sure what you expect them to do. They aren't playing him 100% at the 4...him at the 5 isn't an issue if you have an unstoppable offense.
On top of that you aren't playing Mitch 30+ minutes a game...that would be silly since its important to keep him healthy all year.
Towns had the highest plus minus on the team and we won 50+ and 2 playoff series one of them against the defending champs all with him at the 5. Why are we pretending like it was a failure
even if you just want to focus on the the ECF loss he carried us in the game 1 should-have-been win and also in the game 3 win where he took over the 4th quarter playing at the 5, if not for him doing that we would have been swept.
Starting Mitch was attempted and really didn’t have us looking any better or worse from what I could tell. Mitch started here for years and we didn’t go to the conference finals. If you look at their plus minus towns was a +7 in the pacers series anyway the only positive among any starter and Mitch was a -21. So what are we talking about wasted season lol
basketball is simple...the goal is to outscore your opponent
you can do it one of two ways.
You either play really good defense and suppress offense
You can play really good offense and outscore the opponent.
Also we don't need to be a top 10 DEF in order to win. Indy has proven that in the last two playoffs.
As much as I love Hart and think he is a winning player its clear that when teams adjusted to him by putting centers on him our offense went from setting records to us being a middle of the pack offense. You can't be a middle of the pack offense with KAT at the 5...because KAT won't help anchor a top 10 defense at the 5.
From Jan 1 till the rest of the year we were 13th ranked OFF rating...that is terrible we stopped making adjustments to the counter. If you put another shooter out there while maintaining similar defenser (which Deuce is probably a better defender than Hart) you would be better.
Now rebounding would be an issue we would need more from OG and Mikal on that end to help KAT.
But Hart and Mitch will get plenty of run the key though is make it impossible for teams to defend our offense.
