But god forbid we be slightly positive then it’s premature! No one knows what’s available no one knows what teams want for Colby White or whatever player of the month they wanted. The end result of the year you all lost your mind for, was an injury year from hell where they finished 41-41. We spanked the Hawks and acquitted ourselves very well against Boston even getting media attention from how close those games were. If you go ask Boston fans they blame us for really beating them up and making them work in the first round. But no positivity around here allowed “your all homers.”
So then we go and get an elite solution to our most obvious flaw that everyone agrees is our huge problem, who everyone who knows basketball lauds as a perfect fit. Nope can’t be happy yet! “We gave up to many picks it’s horrible value.” “Weltman only did it because he had too”. “Ibaka trade 2.0”. Then we go and get two players in the draft using our second round picks to address more needs. Nope! “Gave up too many picks to move up for Penda”. “Richardson is way too short”. Lastly they go get one of the smartest backup PGs to help fill our second most critical need who also helps shooting. Nope not enough! So I ask when am I allowed to be happy? Is it not till we are lifting up the trophy?
I love this, honestly. The mental gymnastics some posters go through to suppress optimism and push these Negative Nancy takes is wild. Most of the criticism is built on counterfactuals, hindsight, and a total misunderstanding of how sustainable team-building actually works.
That mindset thrived during the Hennigan era because the front office really was a mess. But they have not adjusted their playbook. Now there’s a new sheriff in town who actually knows what he’s doing, and instead of recalibrating, they’re doubling down and setting themselves up to look foolish.
Weltman just executed a model rebuild, addressed every key need this offseason, and moved decisively at the right moment. If that still isn’t enough to allow for some excitement, maybe the issue isn’t the front office.
