I've been super high on both guys for years and I'm glad others are now too. Unfortunately I doubt we have the ammo to get Murphy but he would be a homerun pickup. Herb would also be a really really good pickup. Both are on really good contracts as well
We absolutely do not, objectively, have what it takes to get either one of those guys. My offer (Murphy and Alvarado for Kuzma, Dre, 2031 1st) was tongue in cheek. But I absolutely believe that Dumars will baffle the basketball world again before the calendar shows August.
What are your thoughts on pursuing Keegan Murray?
Philosophically, if our pro scouts think he's got it, it's the right time to take our shot. I'm kind of ambivalent about him as a player. He's one of those guys who's taken an unexpected trajectory... he looked like a scoring machine in college, but historically a lot of combo forwards have struggled to translate that production to the pros and it seems like he's no exception. But, unlike guys like Derrick Williams or Anthony Bennett, he defends, and his spot up shooting has been playable. So I guess my question is whether he has kind of a Tobias-level offensive game that's been hidden by the Kings offense.
I doubt it. I don't think he's quick enough to create his own shot from the perimeter in the NBA. His first step has no zip, and there's no wiggle or deception in his floor game. I don't think he's got the footwork or the ball-handling or the playmaking chops to be more of a focal point than he's been. He *could* improve those things, of course, but I wouldn't bet on it.
He's a useful player, and I'd take him, but I wouldn't target him as a part of a new core. I think he stays solid and never rises above that level.
