From theAthletic:

Ayton would be a challenge for the Pacers. He would have to demonstrate his ability to improve off the court and that he could again earn starter’s minutes on a team that still has high aspirations. Like Williams, Carlisle doesn’t suffer fools at this stage of his career. Neither do Pascal Siakam, Andrew Nembhard, Nesmith or T.J. McConnell.

I think the answer to whether a player will work hard enough here is to ask Tyrese and Pascal and perhaps others what they think before you make an offer.

Well said.

Ayton is not my first choice, or even my second, but if they have internal buy in for bringing him on, and sign him to a deal with some team protections (shorter length, team option, or partial guarantees) then I'm ok with it. He is talented for sure. We have been sorely lacking a rebounder of his caliber for years.

More from the article:

A source close to Deandre Ayton said Tuesday that the Pacers would be “considered” as a potential landing spot. Ayton would be a challenge for the Pacers. He would have to demonstrate his ability to improve off the court and that he could again earn starter’s minutes on a team that still has high aspirations.

We would be considered,.... yeah,.. nope. We good. Small ball it is! OB,... get yourself a ladder,... this is going to be fun.

If Ayton could be signed for 3 years with the 3rd year play option and not guaranteed $12 million flat. What I mean by that is even if he opts in the team could still waive him by a certain date.

This gives the Pacers a better rebounder and low risk for long term cap problems, and a chance to find a young center to replace Turner and Ayton if he does not improve.

I don't see the small ball thing working, the Pacers have had the shot blocker going all the way back to JO and Dale Davis. This would be an even weaker rebounding team that currently is, they'd have to shoot the lights out because offensive rebounds would be a rarity.

Not actually saying it will work. Saying that IMO, I’ll trust our coaches & the players now on the team to figure something out, to be the best this team can be. What that is, at this point? Idk.

But I would rather trust the team as it exists than bring in someone in a desperation move, that isn’t going to buy in, and is likely to damage the work ethic, culture, camaraderie, & harmony of the team.

If this team loses every game in 25-26, but still has the connectedness they displayed this year, with Hope leading into 26-27, I’m ok with that.

1 season can make a champion, but 1 season shouldn’t break a championship caliber team.

Apparently,... after he was waived by the Raptors,... Wiseman returned to Indy & has been rehabbing with team oversight, including using the team facilities?...

and apparently,... JO has volunteered to come out of retirement to help!

As long as he can stay in the offensive post & doesn't have to run full court,....  :D

it's hardly breaking news that we're interested in Jackson, Bryant, Bradley, and Wiseman.

Yeah,.. you were 1 step ahead of me. I hadn't followed him since we traded him, & he got waived. Thought he was gone, gone. Apparently,... I was mistaken,...

we had to get permission from someone, but he's done all his rehabbing in Indy.

If he's bought in,... a year on the shelf with good coaching & good physical therapy? He might end up being the best option,... and get another chance? We are the Pacers,... we love a good underdog story. :D

I wouldn't hate starting this year just like last year with iJax and Wiseman - if they can pass physicals.

Seeing KP’s comments to the media today my take on the situation is that the Pacers made a conservative offer to Myles and he was either butthurt about how low it was or he wasn’t upset and told his agent look elsewhere and the Bucks made an offer he couldn’t refuse.

It will be interesting to hear Myles side of the story to see if he takes the high road like KP did or if his view is different about the situation. Regardless I think the Pacers will come out of this just fine in a couple of years if Tyrese gets back to his healthy form.

I think MIL should do us a solid and make it a S&T of Myles for a TPE, at least. In the same way that IND sent a 1st for Brogdon in the final form of the deal when we signed him away from MIL via offer sheet some years back. 8-)
