Utah TPE is $26.6 million, Simons salary is $27.6 million. Doesn't work.

Think you could spin DJJ off immediately, Bogi you might need to hold onto heading into the season before finding a taker. Although the positive of splitting Simons into DJJ/Bogi would be that you could realistically head into the season pretty confident that by the deadline you'd be able to get off one of the two no problem, so you can afford to carry them both for a while and wait to see what presents itself.

I fear with Simons that we could be left holding the bag if he plays poorly or teams just find better alternatives and we end up needing to pay to shave money off his deal and duck the tax.

I don't think he's gonna pay poorly.

Does he last past the deadline? Who knows.

I actually think he's gonna outdue his averages and force the C's to make a big decision if he's on the roster past the deadline.

He's only 26, he's fast and he can get to the basket.

Defensively he'll be fine also.

He has only played above average for like 4 months in his entire career.
And he is terrible defensively for his entire career....TERRIBLE...what gives you the impression he is going to be in anyway a good addition and be "fine" defensively here?

I've been geeking out watching lots of Blazer games during the holiday weekend.

He's long and quick which SHOULD (in a perfect world) translate into good defense. He's shown bad habits, but I was more surprised how bad the Blazers are on defense considering Billups is the coach.

Stats show they foul alot (but not Simons) and that's the lack of TEAM discipline. The stats say they focused on scoring rather than defense.

What I took away from watching a bunch of condensed games (not highlights), they figured they can out shoot the other teams. Now, that's the name of the game, but if you don't put together stops it never works. If the staff can instill stops into his mindset I think he'll be fine. Holiday level? No friggin way, but he can learn the same way PP did plus he's 3 inches taller. :D

That's all things going well though. The other end of the spectrum is that he has an even less efficient scoring season and continues to be a turnstile on defense. In that situation no team even wants to take a flyer on him at his price point and we start looking at having to include more than just 2nds to try and get off his money in time to duck the tax.

Upside isn't worth the risk in my opinion. I'd de-risk and snag whatever movable contracts we can get back in return and then keep wheeling and dealing trying to get 2nd draft guys to take flyers on while getting cheaper.

Listen, if it was up to me, I'd love to have less scoring and use this season as a lottery season for the #1 pick.

But, if they plan on keeping him I gotta trust what Stevens is cooking.

I proposed that money saving trade with Miami maybe three days ago lol, Simons for K. Anderson/Love/et al.

Except Miami and Boston never trade with each other. Hasn't happened since 2015.

Micah Peavy was one of my sleepers in the draft, he went 40 to New Orleans.

I like this swing, he's older w/ suspect shooting but I think he could be good.

This has been a very painful offseason and it will probably get worse before it gets better.

Not necessarily, they can't aggregate his salary for 60 days though

Brett Siegel

We are waiting on just 5 Summer League rosters before Thursday:

Celtics, Pistons, Rockets, Clippers, Wizards.

I think the C's will add at least 2 more, obviously, last minute.

Okay, so that's finished business.

Wonder what is holding up the Jrue/Ant trade, is another team jumping in, trying to scalp value for taking Simons?

The Anfernee Simons-Jrue Holiday trade is now official, without the previously reported second-round picks going from Portland to Boston. The final deal is a straight 1-for-1 player swap.

I've been saying this for a year, Celtics very lucky to get off of the last 3 years of Jrue Holidays contract. Thank you Portland!

It’s really been much better than most people thought.
Shed all but 2 full years and 20% of this years Holiday Salary and got 2 seconds back.
Shed 19 million of Porzingis Salary and got a second back.
Looks like a good draft, and haven’t committed future dollars to players that don’t make any sense.
Given what was anticipated how could we view this as a bad offseason.
Did you want to sign a mediocre center for 6-10 million a year? Not happy with Gonzales or Williams as draft picks? I mean what were you expecting? Durrant?

Edit: I just saw the news about the Jrue trade…so no future seconds.

So are they actually not going to duck the tax this year? Being 20M over is too much if the plan is to get under by the deadline
