I have no expectation for this season. If they make the playoffs fine, if they don't it fine as well. I am not looking it as some failure for Bam and Herro. It's more to give them as much responsibility so I can decide whether to move foward with them. If they fail, we get a great draft pick in a great draft.

The worst thing that can happen is this is the Norman Powell show for next season. He's the no 1 option or the no 2 option ahead of Bam. We make playoffs and get bounced in round 1. This is probably what happens. And to me that's a waste of a season.

Bam and Herro had that responsibility last year and clearly needed help.

And they weren't good enough. A smart FO would have rebuilt. But if you are gonna give them another year to do it. Give them another year.
This is a half measure that does nothing. Let Bam /Herro sink or swim. If they sink then do what we should have done this summer and rebuild.

Stop trying to make moves just to scrape into the playoffs. Make moves with intention of someday getting back to contending. Which means when you are not a contender, prioritizing development and asset collection. Guys like Norman Powell, Beal who are not building blocks are the type you stay away when you are where the heat are.

Norman Powell can't be any part of your future, regardless of what you think of Herro

COnsider Holiday pseudo-retired IMO. He has 3 seasons remaining on his deal (over $30M per). Probably doesn't want to forego any of that guaranteed money, but dude was contemplating retirement before he even got that deal and won with Boston. Now he's a "mentor" figure on a team that's hoping to make the playoffs for the first time in years with a core who has zero playoff experience. Dude is gonna be a part time player for Portland.

Until Luka signs that extension with LA I will continue to believe we can acquire him. All our moves have been pointing to next year's free agency as well.

Luka
Trae
Fox

I'm hoping one hits FA in that order.

I still think Fox can be had this summer.. spurs have too much going on at the 1 and 2..

At what price though? Do you really trade out assets if you could potentially get him in FA? Keeping the assets allows you to make another move to add to the Fox build.

I would, ill trade herro filler and picks to guarantee he comes here.

all this conservative approach the Heat has done the last five years does not work.. another example of it came in the draft, just sitting on their hands hoping wcj will drop to their lap.

You want a guy, go get the guy. Fox and Bam were college roommates, is probably Bam’s closest friend in the NBA.

Herro, Highsmith, whatever other player they want and picks

We get Deaaron Fox

Fill out the rest of the roster. You still have expirings to trade for derozan, monk. And potential buyout guys that you can grab for the minimum

Herro makes a lot more sense for San Antonio now to pair with the likes of Castle/Harper than Fox does. None of Castle/Harper/Fox can really shoot from the perimeter. Curious to see what goes on with the extension talks for Fox and San Antonio this off-season.

Celtics are very lucky Portland bailed them out of that deal without having to surrender any assets. That contract will quickly be one of the worst maybe as soon as next season

My bad for coming off as an ass man. I just felt like if we can critique our own players we should be able to critique players we acquire as well. I wasn't bashing Powell like he's not good. Just didn't want people getting their hopes up of him being a POA defender right now.

All good we move

I know you want Wiggins gone but if they're really going to start Herro and Powell together then it might make sense to keep Wiggins.

Will be interesting to see how they move forward with Wiggins. I think we could survive with JJJ, Highsmith, and Larrson playing the wing. I think the reason why I want Wiggins gone is he just never really seemed like he fit or wanted to be here and has that cap space clogging 30 mil player option looming next year.

Spurs already have Devin Vassell making Herro money.

Just feels like we know what we’re going to get from Herro at this stage. Just like we did we Duncan. Heat should absolutely do their due diligence in shopping him around see what the market dictates for him and if there’s a player to be had that can help us in the short term

From what I saw of Fox, it wasn’t that he is a bad 3 pt shooter, he just had to shoot 3’s at such a high volume with not much help that it lead to poor shot selection. The Spurs were 6th in 3PA per game. He could get up to 37% again in the right system.

Successful front office work nowadays is all about cap management and not the loyalty moniker when it comes to paying guys. Already have Bam at 50 million per if we’re serious about being competitive, you simply cannot pay Tyler

I think his point was, on a day most of us are pretty pleased, you're choosing to complain. Eat a Snickers. Maybe you'll feel better.

Levity

I get where you're coming from and share some of the same sentiment. But, I also just see this as the type of value-add asset management at the margins that leads to more optionality for creating and finding value on potential subsequent moves.

Fair enough. I just don't see any direction. And I'd rather be in a situation where we are either really bad in a year with a great draft or somebody makes a leap to get this team to overperform. The top 4 of this draft is supposedly really good. Better than last year. Might be Heat's best chance to get a no 1. Cuz they don't really have a plan on how to get that guy
