Woof.

He's genuinely one of the least assertive and least confident players I've seen. Floats in and out of games in a pretty alarming fashion.

Uh no, seven foot centers who can defend, run and hit three’s are extremely valuable

Even Slopez got 9M/year and he isn't even playable in nearly all playoff series and obviously has 0 upside given age.

You weren't supposed to read that part

point is, i think now we would all have made that trade. Whatever you think AJ Johnson is, hes not going to be as valuable as Myles Turner any time soon.

I agree, but you still need to convince me that Horst was playing ten dimensional chess by knowing Myles Turner would be signed because of this move.

The point is not that horst saw Turner coming in this specific scenario. The point is that he recognized we were about to be locked in with a very old group of players and without much flexibility to change that. So making that trade gives us a vast web of possibilities if Dame doesn't get hurt, but still left us with a tasty option since he did.

If we hadn't made that trade we would still have no Dame, no route to retain kpj unless he takes the min, no way to sign Turner, and we'd be paying the repeater tax for guys like Middleton and Lopez while hoping and praying that aj Johnson could make one of the largest leaps the league has ever seen.

Honestly, the whole thing is a miracle considering the Dame injury. But without the injury, we could have been in an even better situation. So the trade was unquestionably good. If Kuzma can be of value its a big bonus

The urgency to trade Kuz now is Doc will absolutely start him at SF from game 1 to game 82.

Quality backup. Not particularly nimble or quick and can get off-balance in space, but can play the vertical game at the rim on both ends, has nice shooting touch for a big, and doesn't struggle in straight lines / changing ends.

So is going from him to Myles Turner worth all that extra money?

Depends on whether the goal is to maximize payroll efficiency or win. You get more bang for your buck with Huff, certainly, but also a lot less bang. I can see an argument for Huff over Turner if you have another way to get a quality starting center and a good way to spend the difference. All of our guards are on these Huff-esque contracts, and most of them are better players.

He's not good in space. He can't sit in a stance or slide. He's tough to shoot over.

“Listen, Kuz — he’s just one of those guys. He walks in the gym and thinks he’s the best player on the floor. And some nights, he is. Some nights he’s not — but he still thinks he is, and honestly, that kind of confidence is contagious. He’s versatile, he competes, and he’s not afraid to take the tough shots. I’ve had guys who hide in big moments — Kuz isn’t one of them. That’s why he’s starting all 82. I told the staff, ‘We’re riding with Kuz — even if he shows up wearing a pink fur coat, he’s starting.’ And honestly? I respect that.”

-Doc, probably

Can't even begin to describe the massive chasm between guys like Myles Turner/prime Brook and a dude like Jay Huff.

Jay Huff may not even start for the Pacers

Did the NBA now abolish the midseason trade deadline?

He’s definitely a backup center, but a backup who does some things that are valuable to most teams, ie space flier on offense and be tall/block shots on defense. I’m sure he’s a drop only guy, but can give 18 cheap minutes

Most of our fan base loves to ignore rebounding, until we can't rebound. Myles Turner replacing Bobby creates more impetus to get that from the small forward. And we couldn't even rebound with that Giannis/Bobby pairing on the floor until the last few months.
