That is also probably true, but we'll never know.

To be a bit fair to Krause, they changed the CBA to put in the max contract after he had this plan and to give current teams an extra year + bigger raises. If htey hadn't, he was just going to outbid SA on Tim Duncan.

Duncan was never going to be on the radar even though Krause would have tried to outbid. Orlando blew it with the team plane policy though so Duncan might have switched squads. Better for him he didn’t though.

I was the one who use to say that. It destroyed the Tmac strategy.

Yeah he was surely looking to overpay for the guys

As someone that lived in SA from 1993-2005, I'm very glad that Duncan played for the Spurs. I met him one time in a local paintball store. He really liked the sport despite being terrible at it due to his size. Then he came to the field that I worked at, and I refereed him for a few games. Just a super nice guy and one of the all-time greats.

With all that said, my proudest Duncan moment came when I went to a Spurs/Bulls game. I don't remember the year, but we were in the 5th row and the Bulls were obviously terrible. The game was close and Duncan was on the FT line. The stadium was dead silent. Then right as Tim was about to shoot, I yelled "MISS IT DUNCAN". He actually did a double take and looked in my direction while the ball just hit the front of the rim. Bulls ended up winning somehow (I like to think it was me).

My friend who was watching the game on TV said that he could hear me on the broadcast lol.

The Suns should've taken that deal (Bulls too), but I'm also not a big Maluach fan.

As a big fan of his, i would of taken the deal. And i think picks in the 20s are pretty useless.

I think the chance at a top 5 pick in 2026 (who knows where that pick ultimately ends up) is worth more than keeping the 10th or 12th pick, especially for the Suns/Bulls...teams that need high level talent.

Yeah this was a no brainer, I'm shocked multiple teams passed on this even before they got to Chicago.

Maybe FOs are more bullish on Zion being healthy next year.

i cannot stress enough that people need to learn to not take random aggregator accounts on twitter as gospel.

the actual thing hollinger wrote was this, in the context of a "maluach was disappointing in summer league" blurb within a larger summer league analysis article:

Could the Suns have done what Atlanta did and walked away from the draft with an unprotected future first from the Pelicans and the 23rd pick instead of staying at No. 10? Discussion over whether Phoenix fumbled the bag by not taking the New Orleans offer will only heighten if Maluach can’t give the Suns a quality big.

which reads as the same kind of "i don't know for sure what was on the table but it seems like they probably could have gotten the same package" connecting-the-dots that we've been doing

This one kills me-especially since Atl get Newell (my choice) at #23.
I'm happy with Noa, but I think this non-deal will haunt us. Good chance both NO and Milw are in the lotto

The Bucks are in the playoffs with Giannis alone in the weak east and add in an excellent fit in Turner they are going be a higher seed.

Unless Giannis goes down there's zero chance of the Bucks being in the lottery.

He could also still demand a trade. I thought the Turner deal would lock him back into Milwaukee for another year for sure, but reports have suggested that remains a very open question.

Most of this deal isn't too bad with some normal protections on Dumar's pick. Mid-low twenties almost always result at best guys who are at best NBA bench roleplayers, someone you could have just gotten in FA. With a top 12 protection, you're trading a 13 for next year's 13-18ish pick? Similar to the Vuc trade, which was close to unprotected (top 4, top 3). Top 10 protection on the Vuc pick would have still had Wagner in Chicago, and I assume the pick sent to ORL would have instead been Dalen Terry.

I'm sure Dumars started negotiations with protection in place, it's weird he's so convinced Queen is a future star he relented to getting rid of them. Usually you see teams start trading away picks for players who are rising in the draft like Donovan Mitchell, not sliding.

Pels will have to make some in season trades to get better and not cough up a top 5 pick to ATL.

Return to Chicago Bulls
