They finally updated the Devin Booker extension, it had been reported weeks ago but was obviously not finalized (we'll at least not to the point that the folks at Spotrac felt comfortable putting on their site). They used the 27/28 cap projection to calculate the extension that starts in the 28/29 season. So their contract of 2 years $133M is currently wrong. I am sure they'll see the mistake at some point and fix it, but I guess they make mistakes as well.
Quick edit - I feel like someone that posts on this board is involved with Spotrac, so maybe they'll see this and help to get that fixed.
Just wanted to circle back on this. So looks like Spotrac is projecting the cap to only go up 5% in the 2027/28 & 2028/29 seasons. Is there any basis for this? Everyone else that I have seen - specifically Bobby Marks & Shams are projecting 10% increases those years based on the contract amounts of the extensions for SGA & Booker. The league specifically stated the 2026/27 season will only go up 7%, but not sure if there was any news on this lower projection for the following 2 years.
Two things. First, I think spotrac tends to be a little conservative on expected increases.
Second but more importantly, the regional cable networks have really struggled lately, and that has reduced overall BRI. I was listening to a Hoop Collective podcast, and Windy/McMahon were mentioning that one example was Dallas, where the implosion of the regional network meant that the Mavs revenue from regional TV declined from $90M to "a fraction of that". This has not hit all markets, but more than a few.
