The narrative and his play style followed him when he was traded to Toronto..

Last season looked a lot more like RJ Barrett than how he finished the season of the trade.

Last season was a big improvement on New York RJ. He improved in basically all facets of his game minus Free throw shooting, despite being forced into a career high usage rate on a much worse team/supporting cast. There is reason for optimism that efficiency will improve with lesser role and more competitive team. Ideally his 3rd contract will be a lower percentage of the cap to reflect said lesser role, kinda like what happened with wiggins..

That being said i think RJ + 2nds for Allen is more than fair/i have no qualms with what you suggested

Hauser to ATL
Mann and Krejci to BOS
Simons and Tillman to BKN.

BKN gets off of Mann's future money clean this year with 2 expirings.
ATL adds a shooter. I have them sending Krejci back to stay under tax, but they could replace with a 2nd instead if they want to keep him.
BOS gets under the tax. If they don't get Krejci, sign a vet min.

What if it was Green instead?

Kuzma to CLT
Josh Green and a vet min (NSJ?) to Boston
Simons and Niang (into roomLE) Milwaukee

BOS probably doesn't want Grant back anyway.

please, but Green is owed more money

I think a team should try take both of them. Maybe GSW considered it.

They really didn't at all. Horford worked with no one that year. He flat out sucked on both ends. Obviously he turned it around after that, but if a team was trying to take a thought from how that pairing went, it would be to run screaming.

Horford was such a dumb signing for Philly. putting him with Simmons, Tobias and Embiid was never going to work.

By my calculations ATL is ~$5.6 mil below the tax line. Adding Hauser (even sending out Krejci) pushes them over the luxury tax and they still have 1 roster spot to fill.

Its nice to see others agree just how bad Josh Green is.

2027 BOS lotto 1st & Mann is fine, but not while also eating Martin salary. But, doesn't feel like that's even enough, so probably DOA.

But the Martin+Hardy/Simons/Mann part is a separate valuation. If you take out Martin, then the benefit of adding Gafford is really gone. Now you’re just downgrading talent and fit without saving any real money..

In general, you’re adding Gafford for getting under the tax and a second.

Which probably is pretty fair once the team is far enough out of play-in or if AD has ankle surgery next week. But until then, I think in order to trade Gaff Dallas needs to actually get good value.

I don’t expect Dallas to make any real trades… but what does the value look like in..

Gafford to Charlotte
Jalen Smith to Dallas
Connaughton to Chicago

Chicago can go with Vuc/Collins for the year. Dallas keeps a decent enough third center. Charlotte gets an NBA center.

Is it just 4 seconds out from Charlotte and both teams get two? Eh.

Or if Dallas can get the late 2026 first and send Chicago 1-2 seconds?

Cha owes for sure. Definitley to Chi, but Dallas should get something too IMO. Gaff to SMith is a talent downgrade

I was hoping for..

2026 Late first to Dallas (worse of Orl/Mem/etc)
Two Dallas 2nds to Chicago

But maybe it has to just be..

3 seconds to Dallas
2 seconds to Chicago

I think Cha should be paying all the incentive, they're getting the best player at their most glaring hole. I dont think a first and a few 2nds is too much

I think a late first and expiring is as good as Dallas should hope in a Gaff trade.

Paying a couple seconds to get a useful body versus Pat just seems to make sense to me. But if the team wants to take Pat’s expiring and try to believe in Kai or some other vet min signing instead of paying seconds, that is fair.

My bad. I tend to usually stay in my lane and only get detailed on Cs numbers, but fell for the combo of some rando internet trade and then "verifying" it with fanspo trade machine #s looking like you'd have room after the trade. I'm certain your numbers are better.

In the spirit of jayjaysee's "this might be a bad idea" series...

Kuminga S&T + Asset-A to the Lakers
Reaves to the Warriors
(for BYC compliance) Kleber + Asset-B to a third team with space or an exception.

I've got an expiring Reaves as greater trade value than a signed Kuminga. What are the values of the assets? Would LAL want Kuminga as a locked up running mate for Luka? Would GSW want Reaves or the value that he could fetch in return?

Tried Jalen, Gaff, Pat… spinning a less realistic one?

Coby and 2026 first* to Dallas
Gafford to Charlotte
Pat and a 2026 first to Chicago

2026 first is better of …Dallas or worst of Mem/Orlando..

How much more is needed? Dallas trading pick 10-14 for pick 22-25ish on top of losing Gafford? Maybe Dallas can put top 4 protection on the swap?

And if that’s close but not quite, does adding a Christie+Powell/Jalen swap add any value?

Lively/Jalen
AD/PJ
Flagg/Naji
“Klay”/Coby
DLo/Exum

With Coby playing more minutes than Klay and Dallas using the Orlando first to dump Klay/Hardy next offseason to keep Coby?
