Nice to take a series. But who starts tomorrow? My buddy told me that Blackburn is hurt now too.

I'd only be guessing. Butto? Waddel? Hagenmen? Hamel, if they do a 40 man move, or maybe McLean if they want to be bold and start his clock early.

At least we're going up against Stroman tomorrow. He's been awful this year.

McLean has my vote.

I was just going to post an update. McLean pitched tonight, so did Hamel, so they're out. I'm sure the Mets have made their decision and it might be a lot of bullpen arms. I have no clue who'll go tomorrow.

Peterson's been solid for the last 2 years. Sometimes it takes pitchers a while to work it out.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Maybe we should’ve held him out from the minor league start in order to bring him up for a spot start. In any case, I think Waddel and Hagenman will get starts over the weekend against the Yankees

I think we’re supposed to get Manaea and Senga back next week. And then Brooks Raley sometime shortly after that.

Hanegman today. I think it's Holmes tomorrow, which is a kind of Holmescoming for him. (hehe, pretend I didn't say that). Waddel wouldn't surprise me for game 3.

Despite our ugly losing stretch, we still have a better record than the Yankees. I hope we win a few.

and Soto was named the player of the Month for June. He's been nifty lately.

I’ll feel better when we get Senga and Manaea back.

That was some game yesterday though.

I'd love to see the Mets make a move for Seth Lugo. They should have never let him go in the first place.

If we’re trying to win the WS, it’s time to sell off some minor leaguers.

Some good news despite the only loss in the final game of the three game series against the Royals:

1. Sean Manaea is BACK! He was excellent in relief today - his first appearance with the Mets since coming off the DL.

2. Mark Vientos had another 2-hit game hitting out of the 2 spot.

3. Senga pitched 4 shutout innings Friday night in his first start off the DL.

4. Montas pitched 5 innings of 1-run ball (0 walks, 5 Ks) on Saturday in his second start since coming off the DL.

5. Brooks Raley will be back in the BP after the All Star break.

6. Francisco Alvarez has hit 8 HRs in the last 13 games in AAA and should also be back up after the break.

Reasons to be optimistic.

MLB draft started yesterday. The Mets have the 2nd lowest draft allotment with their top pick falling 10 spots and with signing Soto. They reportedly didn't want to sign Nick Pivetta and lose even more draft picks and looking at the year Pivetta is having, that may have been a mistake.

Still, even without a ton of picks, the draft is fun.

They went with two college players on day one.

Mitch Volt (late 1st round, #38 overall I think), a 2nd baseman and as of last year a two way player. I'd guess they won't develop him as two way but you never know. He's got the arm to maybe move to 3rd and the speed to try the OF, so he's an interesting player with some upside and potential.

And Antonio Jimenez (3rd round, 103 overall), a SS with plus reflexes and . . . reports of throwing the ball 100 MPH (I wonder if he's ever tried pitching), so the defense looks like he will stick at short and even be plus there. The bat is a bigger question, but he's young, he's strong, he just strikes out a bit too much and reportedly swings at almost everything. If he can improve on that, he's a potential plus player as well. BP liked Jimenez a lot, some of their writers putting him in the top 50. Others had him ranked lower. MLB's ranking had him 192, but ranking draft prospects is hit or miss, so I wouldn't read too much into that.

It's possible that both players are under-slots and that the Mets will draft another big name, perhaps a HS kid, like Trey Snyder last year (1.3 million - well over-slot for the 5th round) or Boston Baro the year before (700 K, 8th round).

Todays picks, 133, 163, 193 . . . etc. Rounds 4-10.

MLB draft day 2.

I didn't realize, the draft was consolidated. It used to be 3 days, now it's 3, with rounds 1-3 on day 1 and rounds 4-20 on day 2.

Summary of the Mets picks:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/new-york-mets-2025-mlb-draft-recap/ar-AA1IBoIH?ocid=msedgntp&pc=ACTS&cvid=cac0f62518d9453aa72bc63d9f76bcaa&ei=9

It looks like they saved some money on their first 2 picks, rounds 1 & 3, and will use that to sign a few high schoolers, probably rounds 4, 8 and 9, with rounds 11 and 18 probably being long-shots, but time will tell.

They went heavy on pitching with 14 pitchers signed, 6 position players, counting Voit as a hitter, not a two way player.

and 2 pitchers they picked are recovering from Tommy John, something they did last year as well, picking players they think will have upside post recovery.

With limited funding, it feels to me like they did a solid job. But, have to wait and see who they sign.

I don't know. I think Cohen & Stearns are kind of hush-hush about what they're actually planning on the trade market, so I take any rumors with a big grain of salt.

Their pitchers are coming back, so they're not so short handed anymore. Senga, Holmes, Peterson, Montas, Manaea makes 5, so they can work in the occasional spot starter and not bring in a full time starter, unless they want to trade for depth.

I don't think they'll do a big move. Maybe they'll trade some of their prospects outside their top 6 or so for a CF or a relief pitcher, possibly a spot starter type (like their trade for Blackburn last year), but time will tell. I don't think Stearns will deplete their system and go all in this year.

Ugly game tonight. Manaea pitched well for 4 innings (69 pitches), the bullpen then blew the game. They also lost Max Kranick to Tommy John. He's out for the year and a chunk of next year.
