What is obvious, though, is that he's a hell of a scorer, can beat people off the bounce and compromise defenses, which is a dynamic we haven't had since Irving left.

I'm definitely open to seeing what he looks like here. Maybe he turns out to be as bad as some on here think he is. Since I don't watch Portland, I don't know, but I am intrigued to find out.

Same. He ran pretty hot and cold in Portland last season so let's see if he can stay more hot than cold with better players here.

I can fill it in for you, (as someone who watched a fair bit due to being super interested in him a year ago)

AS a starter over the last 3 years he posted and average of (-8) net rating.
As a starter over the last 3 years he averaged 20.5 points on 17 shots
over last 3 years his TS% has declined year over year from 58>57>55.5
His usage remained on average of 25.9 (last year being the least efficient with the lowest usage of the 3 years)

His FG added is over last three years was (-81.4)
His TS% added over 3 years was (-70)

OBPM Avg 3 years - 1.8
DBPM Avg 3 years - (-2.2)
BPM Avg 3 yers - (-1)
VORP 3 years - 0.8
WS 3 years - 2.9

He is a streaky shooter, 1 month he will have above leage average shooting (40% from 3) then follow it up with a month of 35% shooting from three
Take 2025 - Shot 32% in October-Nov, Shot 44% in Dec-Jan, Shot 35% Feb-March - (Sat all of April)

Not a primary ball handler, does not see the floor especially well. Can make basic reads, very basic ones. Not a playmaker for teammates

Simons as a player is very undersized (Shorter than White, lighter than Pritchard) and his game, outside of shooting, is predicated on his athleticism.

an extremely dangerous combination in a player:

Streaky shooting from game to game (might make 8 of 10 one night and 1 of 7 the next)
God awful defender
game predicated on athleticism

but yeah, I guess he can score 20 points per game on 17 shots.

That paints a bleak picture, to be sure. It'll all shake out soon enough. I am still interested in seeing what he looks like on our team. Could look much better on our squad and in our culture.

All of those stats (and his defense) would likely improve significantly on a better team with better spacing, with real coaching, a real offensive and defensive system, a team with a good culture, where guys actually want to be there, where they're actually playing for something meaningful. Not to mention he wouldn't have to carry the offense on a bad team..he'd go from 1st option in POR to 3rd/4th option in BOS and have lower usage here, which means he'd be facing weaker defenders, his efficiency would go up, he'd be able to focus more on defense, etc.

Not to mention he's a young player who's still getting better, has not peaked yet.

I disagree that he's "not a playmaker for teammates"

Lastly, disagree that he's "very undersized". He's 6'3.5" in shoes (basically same height as Jrue and White) with a wingspan of 6'9" (longer than white and Jrue).
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Derrick White's stats the year and a half prior to joining the Celtics didn't reflect the player he would become in the Celtics system.

Wrong again

He is undersized at 6-3 under 200 pounds
His game is predicated on speed

And you are going to use his "career high" assist % as a barometer?

He is a career 19.5
He had a 22 season then 18, then 27, then a 23.

His 27 was an outlier

The three years prior to coming to the Celtics, Derrick White's assist %'s were 21, 20 & 17.4.

Also, White is 6'4'' 190 and it doesn't seem to hurt him.

If we trade him, we trade him. Fine, I will trust Brad. If we don't, I will withhold judgement until I see what he looks like with us.

Good player

It's possible we could have Tatum averaging 27, JB averaging 25 and Simons averaging 22. Good luck stopping that. Not to mention D-White and Pritchard.

This is the first thing I’m sure about about Simons:
Anfurnace is a very cool nickname

Just reading some of the old chatter and wanted to point out that while Anfernee Simons may only be 6'3, he has a 6'9.25 wngspan and 8'3.5 standing reach. Derrick White is at 6'4 with a 6'7.5 wingspan and standing reach of 8'5.5. The average SG in the NBA has a standing reach of 8'2.75 and wingspan of 6'8.5.

I think players like Simons are dime a dozen and the league is catching on to these players and I think they are very easy to replace. Sometimes players need a change of scenery to figure out how to play defense, hopefully Simons is one of them.

Litmus test for a two guard though is can they guard threes or ones. Otherwise it’s like cool you’ve got slightly above average length for all of the least versatile and most common body type guys in the game.

Just add a rim protecting C and a wing defender who can shoot 3s and we're back in business.

easy.

Make brown put ball on the floor and create and let simons take all the shots he wants. Brown will make poor decisions and turn ball over, Simmons will take all the shots then brown will get annoyed that he isnt getting enough shots and will start taking bad ones and Tatum will think the same...My turn to score.

Offense will be stagnat my turn your turn.

Celtics will be just fine. The sky is not falling. Tatum and Brown have consistent generated top offenses

yeah lets just ignore what Jrue, KP, Horford, etc contributed.

Don’t get it twisted. Tatum and Brown are the engines that drove this team. Those other guys were very expensive role players.

Porzingis missed 40% of the regular season games and didn’t do much in the playoffs outside of 1 game.

NBA average is 37% from 3. Last year Horford shot 36% and Jrue shot 35%. Those guys and their offensive roles are replaceable.

Simons is a massive offensive upgrade from Holiday and Smart. A team with Pritchard White Simons Brown Tatum and Hauser is going to put up big time offensive numbers. The offense should not be a concern.

That's not the norm... just be prepared.

I hope he does get a chance to stick with the Celtics past this contract, I'd be really curious to see him next to the J's.
