Zero benefit UNLESS something else is coming OR...unless JD asked to be let go (which would surprise me but is possible).

Benefit to getting under the 2nd apron now:

a) We now have more flexibility for making other moves. There's certain things teams simply can't do from a roster building perspective if they're over the 2nd apron. We're under it now so we can now do things to build the roster that we couldn't before.

b) Sure, we could always make a move later to get under the 2nd apron. But why wait? You make the move now, get it done and over with. So now you can breathe a sigh of relief. You can relax, and have peace of mind knowing, we did it!

Again, as I mentioned earlier, if they knew JD was gonna be the one to get cut..mine as well do it now, as early as possible so he has more time to latch on with another team - before all the good opportunities with other teams are taken. Teams in the NBA and overseas are filling the rosters fast rigth now. Shake Milton and Lonnie Walker literally just got signed by overseas clubs.

Perhaps JD has an offer from another team and asked for the release. Who knows..

a) seems to support my belief that another move may be imminent. This creates flexibility which is exactly what I said.

b) the "breath of fresh air"/"thank God that's over" answer, no offense, my friend, smells like bull to me. That's just not rational to me. It's not like they were 10M over. Brad doesn't strike me as a "do a move for stress relief" kinda President. He does stuff for reasons that help the team. This move on its own does nothing.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Best news for JD Davison. JD was never going to make it in Boston, too many guys in front of him. Regardless of what the Celtics are saying publicly, this feels like a setup. Wouldn't be surprised if something else happens tonight or tomorrow.

Absolutely no point to waive him this early if no other move is planed:
- signing a FA
Or
- doing 1 for 2 or 2 for 3 trade.

If they wanted to divide the center spot by 3 every game, I can see it. But I'm not short-circuiting Minott and Walsh getting a fair audition this year.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm kinda out on Walsh. Summer League aside, I don't see enough there yet. If I was running things, I put him and Minott head to head and if he doesn't beat him out, I waive him too before the start of the season and sign someone else.

I'm not totally in, but I think they have to give him to the deadline to see if that 3pt shot has any chance of being league average. My vantage point, I also put them head to head at the PF spot. Walsh doesn't shy away from the scrum. 3's and baseline cuts the order of the day offensively. DD plan (and anticipating C's plan), Niang starts at PF, Minott first crack at backup PF. Walsh spot minutes at wing. If team limping at the deadline, Niang dealt and the Minott/Walsh showdown on the dusty road ensues.

I expect they wanted to cut JD free while the league-wide scramble of 14th/15th men (and two-ways) is going on, to give him a chance to find another home.

Again, it was very low-key reporting, but Noa Dalzell said in the last few weeks that JD was not around any Boston-related practice facilities, and a guy trying to make it with the big club probably would have been.

I was never as big a fan of his as I wanted to be. He has some potential. Hope he fulfills it and gets paid for it!

If you trade Simons then there is a good chance at least two players are coming back in the trade, probably more.

My general feeling on guys who play on the perimeter on offense is that they need to be able shoot threes or dribble at a pretty high level.

If you can’t do one of those, it’s difficult to commit playing time.

Walsh’s shot looked a little better but we’ll really need to wait till training camp/preseason to see for sure.

The things he does well, I think we have guys on the roster that may do them better. And the things he needs to work on...we have guys that do those things better too.

yea.
to do a 1 for 2 or 2 for 3 trade, you need an open roster to take back the extra player or you can not complete the trade.

maybe a trade in the works

If he asked out himself, I'm with it. I buy it, and fair thee well. I would've cut Walsh first, but that's me.

Eh. What do you expect? The highest Draft was 30th, before this Draft.

Too bad they didn't have a chance to acquire a Lottery Pick where Brad could redeem himself. Um... Wait a minute.

If you mean the 14th pick last year, Brad wanted to go all in on Jrue Holiday and the cost was 2 firsts, Malcolm and Rob

Now that I’m done with that.

Who are we picking up?! We have a roster spot. I need someone else to fawn over!

Do something Brad!! I trust you!! Don’t mind what I said earlier, you know we argue like that sometimes. You’re always on the right track, I know you don’t roll to just roll!

Celtics need a big man, so the next player Brad signs will probably be a SF.

JD simply wasn't an NBA player and had three seasons with the Celtics to prove the opposite.... And failed.

You may be right about that. He’s not a Celtics, but unless he becomes a lakers, I hope he proves you wrong. It’s not that serious though, I’m mostly joking.

A source told me they did this to add Amari to the big club. They wouldn’t lie to me, there is no one I trust more!
