No one cares. Zero benefit UNLESS something else is coming OR...unless JD asked to be let go (which would surprise me but is possible).
Benefit to getting under the 2nd apron now:
a) We now have more flexibility for making other moves. There's certain things teams simply can't do from a roster building perspective if they're over the 2nd apron. We're under it now so we can now do things to build the roster that we couldn't before.
b) Sure, we could always make a move later to get under the 2nd apron. But why wait? You make the move now, get it done and over with. So now you can breathe a sigh of relief. You can relax, and have peace of mind knowing, we did it!
Again, as I mentioned earlier, if they knew JD was gonna be the one to get cut..mine as well do it now, as early as possible so he has more time to latch on with another team - before all the good opportunities with other teams are taken. Teams in the NBA and overseas are filling the rosters fast rigth now. Shake Milton and Lonnie Walker literally just got signed by overseas clubs.
Perhaps JD has an offer from another team and asked for the release. Who knows..
a) seems to support my belief that another move may be imminent. This creates flexibility which is exactly what I said.
b) the "breath of fresh air"/"thank God that's over" answer, no offense, my friend, smells like bull to me. That's just not rational to me. It's not like they were 10M over. Brad doesn't strike me as a "do a move for stress relief" kinda President. He does stuff for reasons that help the team. This move on its own does nothing.
