At this point it's more about untethering himself to an undesirable environment than the upfront money. And they've constantly proven him right with how they've mishandled him over the past four years.

They clearly don't value him but yet they also want the moon for him. It makes no sense. The Suns or Kings would at least be a fresh start with a guaranteed bigger role.

The amount of control these teams have over a player's young career is kinda messed up if you think about it. At least in football it's a bit easier to move on to a different situation if necessary

The NBA makes it really hard for players to accept the QO because you lose bird rights. If he takes the QA, his only path is UFA and UFA won't be a good time for him given who is projected to have money...

lol their offer already erases his bird rights and they want him to rescind the no-trade included in that.

again, given all the options he wants freedom and a fresh start, not necessarily up-front money.

Damn, I had no idea they were trying to make the 2nd a year an option year. This is pretty bad. I agree with you btw, I hate RFA.

You do if you are traded after accepting the QO (player waives no trade). Only the team you sign the QO with gets to maintain bird rights.

I wonder if there will be any repercussions for the Warriors in future deals because of the way things played out here. Probably not.

maybe they could start restricted free agency a week before general free agency and have a 7 day limit on offer sheets. that way teams don’t have to worry about missing out on the free agent pool with their money tied up. might help the situation for guys in the future

I am looking for his g league stats for last year but can’t find them list. Was he actually there last year or perhaps in a different league? Anyway, interesting signing in that we have two spots open and haven’t signed the two other guys we were reportedly giving the exhibit 10s to. Maybe we decided against them based on summer league camp.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

That would be interesting but the problem is the cap for the current year will not have been set yet at that time so I”m not sure that is viable. One thing they could do, (though I am sure teams won’t want to give up the power they have) is to have the qualifying offer increase in value by a million every week after free agency opens that it remains extended to a player. At some point, the player will either decide to take the qualifying offer or the team will rescind it, giving up his rights.

Bird Rights don't matter at that point because you're not getting traded (Not likely anyway with the whole "no trade clause" thing and the Dubs frankly psychotic bar they've set for a guy they don't even want on the roster) and you're probably not re-signing with your original team if you're ever in a spot where you feel picking the QO is the right option for your career.

Like it should go without saying but Kuminga is playing his last season with the Warriors if he picks up his QO. It's rare for a player to pick it as is. It's unheard of - to my recollection - for someone to pick up the qualifying offer and re-sign with their team. Like Greg Monroe and Nick Young took it and neither stayed with their respective teams in the following season.

Worked out for Greg, not so much for Nick.

Thank God we have Barnes and not Kuminga. Playing with Curry helped his stats? He's going to be a sub 40% FG player on his next team.

Classic trade deadline move. I’m glad we kept our powder dry this offseason. Let’s see what Webster can do.

I swear Shams said it was supposed to be a crazy off season with lots of moves and a move bigger than Luka. I guess it's technically not done yet but still.

IQ is going to out perform this guy on their next contract and look like a steal. Fox is very over rated on defense. He's actually smaller than IQ and he's a worse shooter.

If someone dislikes IQ's contract they should really hate Fox's.

Odds of Fox finishing that contract in Milwaukee are slim to none

I think SAS just secured the primary salary to match Giannis.
