Another functional NBA centre we passed on in the draft, arguably twice since we could have taken him with the late first we gave up in the Ochai trade.

Flipowski wasn't very good at defending C's as they shot 57% against him last year. Going to be hard to win minutes with him as your primary big. His defense isn't good enough to be your lone big, so you need to play him with an other C who can actually do the dirty work.

I wonder if we're going to be active over the remainder of the offseason, or if management is set on seeing what the roster as-is looks like coming opening night?

where would you make a move tho? maybe backup center but they already signed mamu; so i think we're done for now unless a cannot miss opportunity opens up.
we need to see exactly how this team fits and plays together. there are a lot of question marks from BI's health to Barnes and other young players development; fit of IQ and RJ with BI etc...the only player I really feel confident about is poeltl.

It's a great question to which I have no answer. Mine was mostly idle curiosity. I kind of hope we don't, even though it'll be rough on us here for lacking new material to discuss. I want to see what we've got in action before we do much else.

The next move is a consolidation move IMO. I’m glad we kept our powder dry. We have tradable contracts and all our draft picks. Just gots wait on those opportunities to develop

Great video.

If all you're offering is scoring, there's not a ton of value for these guys. Guys who offer multiple skillsets are at a premium, with 3&D being a premium right now. If you're a hyper efficient scorer you need to offer something alongside that skillset. Cam Thomas is a perfect example of this, 10 years ago he's a guy who is a perreniall allstar, in today's game he's a neutral asset.

Part of the reason why I'm so high on Scottie/CMB is because of how much they impact the the game in multiple ways. It's easy to find scorers, but having a guy like Scottie who impacts the game in multiple ways is so rare.

Cam Thomas is an inefficient chucker, though. I don't think he's a good example at all. He might have made an ASG game or two back in the day, but even then, he would have been seen as a crap-ass useless team player who didn't pass well and shot way too much.

League average TS is 57.6%

Hes averaging 24.0/3.3/3.8 (27.6/3.8/4.3 PER36) with a TS of 57.5% with relatively low turnovers.

Considering his volume, that's pretty good, and he's only 23. Considering his age, and production, in past seasons he would have been a positive asset. In the modern NBA he's a negative asset because he offers nothing other than volume scoring.

Cam Thomas is just one example, other guys include Zach Lavine, Demar Derozan, Jordan Poole etc... one dimensional scorers are being phased out of the NBA (unless you're capable of being a top 2 option). You need to bring multiple skills to the table, and I honestly worry we have too many guys who fall in that category (IQ, RJ, BI, Gradey).

Houston this past season was the perfect example of a modern team. A team loaded with 3&D, and multiple talented players... and they made some noise in the 24/25 season.

If you want to believe the 25-game sample from last year over the preceding 190 games, that's your prerogative, I suppose.

However, it's not really representative of his prior play. He doesn't get to the rim well, and apart from that stretch, he's been meatily negative TSAdd. And he isn't a good passer at all.

Cam Thomas is just one example, other guys include Zach Lavine,

Lavine will be fine. He's a highly-efficient scorer who isn't a terrible passer. He won't top out his contract, sure, but there are places for guys like him all over.

Right, and capped out because they didn't have the kind of scorer we're talking about, in essence.

Definitely, we should have finished with the worst record and picked 5th.

The archetype they are referring to are microwave scorers who want the ball in their hands, can’t play off ball, can’t pass and can’t defend.

IQ is actually great off ball and is a capable defender. Not to mention, his usage has never been particularly high.

Yeah, he doesn't fit that mold at all. He was well away from the top end of time per touch and number of dribbles. Clearly capable of moving without the ball to C+S. Acceptable defender. Barely isolated at all.

Really nothing like the guys in that video at all.

Report of Embiid’s knee not healing well and missing the beginning of training camp could mean the beginning of the end for him.

Cavs and Knicks will have the easiest path to the ECF.

I don’t know how the Sixers keep being put high up in the projections for the East.

Embiid is done. When he signed that extension, it was to protect his future earnings, because his knee is done.

This team is dead on arrival, with Embiid and PG3 eating up over $100M on dead weight contracts.

Anyone else feels it's crazy that Kyle Lowry is 39 years old, the 3rd oldest guy in the NBA, and still in the league.

And now Derozan is 36 and still playing at a high level.

Getting old...

Playing in Toronto extends your career. European lifestyle, good healthcare etc
