Naw, that's an easy pass.
If they are lucky, they might get a late FRP for Ochai. Probably more likely they get a SRP, or nothing if they let him walk next summer.
Mogbo needs to get paid in 2 years, along with Gradey. So Raps upgrade on BI, with a guy that could be a small ball C at times, but along with IQ, gives the Raps two starters that are volume 3pt shooters.
They also shed $5M this year to get under the tax.
So we are a team that is stressing a defensive identity and need shooting and we should trade our best 3+D guy? And trade Mogbo because he needs a new contract in 2 years?
All for a guy on the same tier as BI, but is older, more expensive,.and.on a longer contract.
Sound logic.
Raps are not signing all of BI (if he opts out), RJ, Gradey, Mogbo, Shead, and Battle two years from now, when all of their contracts are up. Ochai is up after this year, and his deal looks like the one to move this season to get under the cap.
So it is a deal where the Raps unload contracts that they will have trouble signing all of, maintain the players still on longer rookie deals (CMB & Walter), still retain their best defensive players (Barnes, Yak & probably CMB), and hold onto IQ & RJ (who could probably be signed to a reasonable deal).
Markkanen is also a much better shooter than Ingram. Plus he has the size that means he could fill in multiple roles.
