The consolidation trade for the Raps this season could be BI, Dick, Agbaji & Mogbo for Markkanen.

So lose Ochai and Mogbo for the same level guy who is 1 year older, more expensive and on a longer deal?

Naw, that's an easy pass.

If they are lucky, they might get a late FRP for Ochai. Probably more likely they get a SRP, or nothing if they let him walk next summer.

Mogbo needs to get paid in 2 years, along with Gradey. So Raps upgrade on BI, with a guy that could be a small ball C at times, but along with IQ, gives the Raps two starters that are volume 3pt shooters.

They also shed $5M this year to get under the tax.

This is a stupid trade - but not as stupid as suggesting an RFA will "walk" and therefore we should trade all our depth AND the guy we just acquired for one of the heftiest contracts in the NBA for a negative defender.

So we are a team that is stressing a defensive identity and need shooting and we should trade our best 3+D guy? And trade Mogbo because he needs a new contract in 2 years?

All for a guy on the same tier as BI, but is older, more expensive,.and.on a longer contract.

Sound logic.

Raps are not signing all of BI (if he opts out), RJ, Gradey, Mogbo, Shead, and Battle two years from now, when all of their contracts are up. Ochai is up after this year, and his deal looks like the one to move this season to get under the cap.

So it is a deal where the Raps unload contracts that they will have trouble signing all of, maintain the players still on longer rookie deals (CMB & Walter), still retain their best defensive players (Barnes, Yak & probably CMB), and hold onto IQ & RJ (who could probably be signed to a reasonable deal).

Markkanen is also a much better shooter than Ingram. Plus he has the size that means he could fill in multiple roles.

Like BI, Trae is a name that is underrated given his statistical impact. He's never played with an all star level teammate unless you count Murray.

Theres a machination where we can do IQ/RJ for Trae/Kennard with picks to round out the value. I feel like Trae has a negative perception here though

If we could turn IQ into Trae I'd do it.

Yeah I second this. Cant get lucky in the draft, cant get a top 5 player, so getting distressed asset players is a great strategy

Trae was my best case scenario before the offseason started but after the Hawks traded for Porzingis, that ship sailed imo. Hawks are gonna look to contend and will probably want Trae back on less than the max.

I looked at multiple threads on Hawks Reddit and they all said his defense has improved over past 2 seasons. He's been putting a lot more effort from numerous comments.

He will still need to bulk up like Steph did to put up more resistance when he's switched onto bigger players.

I consider him one of the most underrated players in the nba. He hasn't even been making the allstar teams in many years he was deserving. 1 of the best offensive players in the nba period.

Demar also wasn’t the best player on his team, and had significantly more depth and better role players.

Fox is without a doubt better than Demar
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Id definitely take a gamble on Trae being better in a different situation

Hey dum-dum that was an example, does Doncic, Shai, Ant, Curry, Booker sounds better ? No that's also a tough competition. And again, all star nominations are nothing more than popularity votes. Delmar wouldn't even made 1 all star appearance in his prime if he would've been in the West. Period.

After the Raptors, the Hawks are the team I'm most interested in this season.

For all the crap dumped on Raptors for Ingram injury risks, the Hawks season is riding on Porzingis and Jalen Johnson. Neither make BI look like Cal Ripken Jr, but I’m more comfortable riding with BI over either of the other two just for the post NOP bounce I expect from BI.

Trae young situation is going to be very interesting.

Return to Toronto Raptors
