Any idea on the mechanics of such a move?

Chicago has the TPE to make it work pretty easily (taking in Moody, or a third team’s player with Moody ending up there) but GSW also only has 25 mil under second apron (36 with Moody involved) and needs to fill 6 roster spots. And seems to have promised Al over the vet min

Seems like it would cost GSW both Moody and Buddy in order to backfill vet mins. Then you can give Al 5~ sign 6 vet mins (say 14 mil) and still have 26 for Giddey’s first year? All finger math..

Forgot about the Bulls' TPE. Dubs also have a fairly good sized one that can help make the math work fairly easily, but like you said they're better off unloading salary elsewhere in order to fill out their roster. I played around with it a bit on Spotrac with the Jazz. This would be a good use of the Collins TPE to acquire more assets in exchange for expiring deals; I still see them sticking with the "no future money" plan unless the returning assets are really good.

Is Giddey also a "base-year compensation" case in a sign and trade? Leaving the Warriors out of it, if Bulls sign and trade him to another team, Bulls can only take back half of Giddey's first year salary?

Is Giddey any better than former ROY MCW? Honestly, not trolling, I dont see what makes him even slightly sought after.

Yes, at any starting salary of about $10MM or higher.

While the base year compensation rules have, for the most part, been adjusted and/or removed from the CBA, there’s still one situation where they apply. Teams have to take them into account when completing sign-and-trade deals.

The BYC rules apply to a player who meets all of the following criteria in a sign-and-trade:

—He is a Bird or Early Bird free agent.
—His new salary is worth more than the minimum.
—He receives a raise greater than 20%.
—His team is at or above the cap immediately after the signing.

If the player meets those criteria and is included in a sign-and-trade deal, his outgoing salary for matching purposes is considered to be his previous salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater. For the team he is being signed-and-traded to, his incoming figure for matching purposes is simply his new full salary.

Better than MCW, yes. I'd be wary of signing him at his asking price—the Bulls are wise to hold the line on their offer—but at 125-150% of the NTMLE he's a good value, imo.

I mean there are no details on what it was for or what picks needed to be added. Not enough information to care either way.

I think Gabe should be close to neutral value since he's expiring, only $11m and is rotation level.
I think Vando is probably negative value because of injuries.

Given lakers need rotational players , wouldn’t a rotation level Gabe works with Luka / LeBron ? He wouldn’t be needed for ballhandling .

Think LeBron/ Luka part of the reason for his poor fit. Connecting / Secondary playmaking use to be part of his appeal in Miami . He a complete offensive liability spotting up with no play making outlet while he been with the Lakers.

You not wrong, I like Gabe myself, but since we got Smart and others etc, there's not a real need, I doubt he'll get much playing other then garbage time unless JJ really likes him.

We've probably argued with an actual AGM here!

he said he was on RealGM before he got hired in the league office so he wasn't yet an AGM when we would have argued with him but still . . .

I should add that he didn't say he left so ????

I’ve always figured there was at least a decent amount of team scouts here. An assistant gm is kind of impressive, but makes sense

Yea what I remember he was . 3 and D (not consistent enough 3s) who can’t really create for others but can pass it along .

The archtype that should do well with LeBron and Luka if he up his 3 point %

Smart and gabe are probably similar archtype with similar strength and flaws. Now sure how smart level of play is now.

We sharpened him enough so he could eventually be an AGM. Good on him that he was open to learning.
