Any idea on the mechanics of such a move?
Chicago has the TPE to make it work pretty easily (taking in Moody, or a third team’s player with Moody ending up there) but GSW also only has 25 mil under second apron (36 with Moody involved) and needs to fill 6 roster spots. And seems to have promised Al over the vet min
Seems like it would cost GSW both Moody and Buddy in order to backfill vet mins. Then you can give Al 5~ sign 6 vet mins (say 14 mil) and still have 26 for Giddey’s first year? All finger math..
Forgot about the Bulls' TPE. Dubs also have a fairly good sized one that can help make the math work fairly easily, but like you said they're better off unloading salary elsewhere in order to fill out their roster. I played around with it a bit on Spotrac with the Jazz. This would be a good use of the Collins TPE to acquire more assets in exchange for expiring deals; I still see them sticking with the "no future money" plan unless the returning assets are really good.
Is Giddey also a "base-year compensation" case in a sign and trade? Leaving the Warriors out of it, if Bulls sign and trade him to another team, Bulls can only take back half of Giddey's first year salary?
