Rick Carlisle, Pacers Agree To Contract Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Aug 19, 2025 2:13 pm

The Indiana Pacers have agreed to a multiyear contract extension with head coach Rick Carlisle. The Pacers made a surprising run to the 2025 NBA Finals, extending the series to seven games against the favored Oklahoma City Thunder.

Carlisle is in the midst of his second stint as Indiana's head coach. He's gone 157-171 during this period. Over the last two seasons, the Pacers are 23-17 in the postseason, advancing to the Finals last season and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024.

Overall, Carlisle is 993-860 as a head coach with the Pacers, Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks. Carlisle won the 2011 NBA Finals while coaching the Mavericks.

multiyear? How many more years I have to watch Rick spitting in that cup on the sideline scorers table?...Legit coach by the way. He stole Tibodeau's lunch money 2 years in a row and told him at the end of game 6 East Conference Finals: Don't you ever let me see you again, I will take your wallet again. In 2024 Knicks up 2 games, he pulled this playing the refs tricks by claiming small markets like Indiana don't get any respect, Pacers did not get any calls Yada Yada Yada and the refs start calling the games to help Pacers more than they deserved...in 2025 Knicks up 17 6 minutes to go in Game1, Rick winked/nodded at Tibodeau and warned him he is about to have his usual playoffs brain cramp coaching and sure enough within seconds Tibodeau was discombobulated and could not recover...Josh has to help him save face and begged him to start Mitch instead in Game3...At the exit interview all Tibodeau had in his head is Rick's words. When Knicks management Rose and Dolan asked him what are his plans to get better next year, he told them Beat Boston again and that was the end of Tom Tibs...All Rick Carlisle faults

The obvious move for a HOF coach.

Reporters should avoid writing their opinions in a story. It was not a surprising run... or at least, I wasn't surprised. They won the East in my bracket, largely because of their coach and the depth of talent he had to work with. (And no, I'm not a Pacers homer; I live on the West coast. And no, I don't care what Vegas has to say about it; their job is predicting how people will bet, not necessarily predicting the eventual outcome.)

Best coach in the league. He can take his players and beat yours, ad turn around and take your players and beat his.

Ppl will bet on what they expect.. If you expected the pacers to win why didn't you put large bets on them could of made some good money until the finals.. If they had beaten okc would you have been surprised? The point here is if ppl expected the knicks to win and thus so much so they backed them into a favourite cause that how it works if ppl were putting more money on the pacers the pacers would start favourite.. The point is though if what happened was what was not expected by most people it is known as a surprise.. I was surprised the pacers went 7 against OKC.. I will not be surprised if the pacers never make the nba finals with this current iteration and I would be surprised if the pacers won a championship without getting a player better than haliburton..

Respectfully, it was a surprise run. I'm no Celtics fan, but if they had actually done what they were supposed to, the Pacers wouldn't have made it that far.

Him and glen rivers must know where the bodies are hidden because there's no way they keep getting signed or extended.

It wasn't much of a surprise to Pacer fans and yes, I did bet it. We knew the team had that ability. The surprise was to everyone else because they weren't paying attention.

It's about knowing basketball rather than following consensus.
Other than 23/24, when have the Celtics done what they were supposed to do? I would not have been surprised if the Celtics repeated... but I thought they would struggle because this (or that) Celtics team often crumbles under pressure. I love what the Cavs are doing, but two-small-guard lineups have historically had issues in the postseason. The Knicks have all the talent in the world, but Brunson tries to go one-on-five when the game is on the line, turning KAT into a lawn ornament. Maybe Mike Brown will have some answers but he's not much more creative on the offensive end than Thibs.

My general point was that I saw it coming and I was not alone. This was not surprising. MIA going to the finals in 22/23 was surprising!

Well, I'm not a Pacers fan and I don't bet on anything... nothing is a sure thing. If Haliburton didn't get hurt, a lot of people might have lost their shirt in the Finals... but yes, I would have made a killing if I were a betting man.

There are little surprises every playoffs, but for a reporter to claim that four-seed, 50-win team that finished the season hot, was a surprise just because they didn't expect it, is pretty sloppy writing. I called it, 23artest23 called it, and anyone that didn't see it as a possibility simply wasn't paying attention.
