As pointed out in the trade topic, starting him would push Bridges into the front court and push out Hart, Mitch or Yabu out of the rotation and that doesn't seem like something that would happen.
But let's look at it from the Beasley perspective.
The guy is in huge debt from a slew of bad decisions.
He needs $$$$$ ASAP.
Logic dictates he'll take the largest sum of money offered, end of story.
He's not coming to a playoff team or the Knicks to "build up his stock" and get a payday next year. And teams know who he is. He's not coming off an injury.
He needs that money now.
He'll also being going to a situation where 28 mpg are guaranteed. Now, he could take a deal for the most money and not be guaranteed minutes figuring he can deal with his debts that way. But if he takes less (and by less I mean the teams that are offering than Brooklyn, Chi, Cha, Indiana) it's for one of the teams that can offer 7 million per AND guaranteed minutes.
Jokingly, I said Indiana in the trade topic but it's probably Brooklyn, Chicago or Charlotte, depending on which of those teams doesn't have too much of a guard glut and has a need, plus minutes.
Knicks fill zero of the criteria of what Beasley would be looking for.
And, IF Beasley came to the Knicks on a "prove it" deal (even though he has nothing to prove as a player), imagine how much of a distraction and malcontent he becomes if his minutes slip at any point in the year, which is possible with talented guys like Deuce, Clarkson, Hart, Yabu, Mitch all possibly getting more minutes that might press his down.

Klay Top 10? Booker MVP candidate? No Grimes?

Also, we have good guards. Big wing is still more of a priority.

Clarkson may be a great addition or he may be another Kemba, Fournier, Bogey etc that is at the stage in his career where his offense is no longer close to good enough to make up for his poor defense.
Clarkson is 33. Even guys that were very good for the team at one point like Burks and Rose became almost unplayable around this age. For the minimum it is not much of a risk but we don't even know if he is deserving of being a rotational player on a contender yet.
