Letterboxd is the most popular movie tracking app as far as I can tell. They've said they will add support for TV, but I don't think they actually have yet.

What's the difference between Letterboxd and just entering stuff manually in a spreadsheet?

If you only care about keeping track of what you watch, there's not much. But Letterboxd can be good for suggestions based on movies you've logged. There's a bunch of cool stats & stuff, but you have to pay for that.

I started tracking a long time ago so my history was all over the place. It was good for me to get it centralized.

I like the idea of Letterbox'd as a way of Remembering Some Movies. A year or so ago I started going back to the beginning of film and logging which ones I'd seen. After about ten hours I quit because I had other stuff to do at work.

Not the worst list. My biggest initial gripe (Pitt in Moneyball and not Snatch) isn't even a gripe since Snatch came out in 2000 and isn't actually a 21st century movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Lou Bloom being all the way down at 95 is deeply offensive to me.

Also for Charlize I would’ve picked Monster instead of Fury Road. Her performance as Aileen Wuornos was absurdly good.

That list is atrocious. But whatever. It's all subjective.

Decided to update my list. Final tally is 1820 films, with 39 getting five stars.

Finished Red Eye on Netflix. British series, 6 episodes. It's not groundbreaking but I liked it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Charlie Hunnam playing Ed Gein should be interesting. Oct. 3 on Netflix. If you don't know about Wisconsin's own Ed Gein watch this. Watch it anyway.

Did you not like American Horror Story? I haven't seen any of the seasons. With Gein I"m hoping he sticks to the story as is, there's no need to fictionalize anything.

I watched the first season and it was okay. Not enough for me to watch the ones that came after. I think the last stuff of his I enjoyed were the early seasons of Nip/Tuck and Glee. Last thing I started was the Dahmer show but I bailed after one episode.

I bailed on Dahmer too. Maybe because I knew the story already so well. Murphy co-wrote most of those. For Gein Ian Brennan wrote all of them. I'll give it a shot.

The absence of any performances from Revolutionary Road, the movie that finally convinced me that DiCaprio is a great actor, is flat out ignorant. Did they talk to *any* actors when they made this list? Nothing against the Wolf of Wall Street and Little Children, but those are not the best performances from those actors. Although WoWS has the bro-y vibe Ringer Staff need to survive.

I love lists like that. Not because I agree with all the picks but because I usually find something interesting that I haven't seen before. Or I'm reminded of a great movie I haven't seen in a long time.

I didn't bother with the list, because it'll just piss me off, but Take Shelter is a great movie that not a lot of people have seen. And as you said, Shannon is fantastic in it.

I assume DDL in There Will Be Blood is #1, which I can't really argue with too much.

He's in there but not 1.

DDL is coming out of retirement to do a movie directed by his son (debut). Also stars Sean Bean.

Anemone. Out October 3. I haven't liked all of his movies but DDL is one of the greats.

You can't make me click it. I won't do it.

I think virtually all of the Ringer's sports content absolutely sucks hog ****, but their culture stuff is good. I like The Big Picture, The Ringer-Verse, Prestige TV, and The Watch pods and have listened every week for years. And usually, when they do lists and best-of compilations they're at least entertaining.

This was good. Shea Whigham 's rapidly been climbing the That Guy list for a while. He's a welcome addition in everything.

Thing I noticed, I don't associate most of those guys with the roles listed in "What you know him from". Like, who looks at Stephen Root and doesn't immediately think of Milton? It doesn't even get a mention here:

What you know him from: No Country for Old Men, The Empty Man, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Get Out, Selma, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Tragedy of Macbeth

Some That Guys lean into a familiar archetype; others are so chameleonic that it’s hard to recognize them from movie to movie. Stephen Root falls into the latter category: He’s adept at being goofy (Dodgeball), slimy (No Country for Old Men), or downright sinister (Get Out). That versatility extends to his vocal range, which he can use to adopt a cartoonish Southern accent (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) or frantically rant about bubbles (yes, he’s that fish in Finding Nemo). That Root’s such a malleable performer helps explain why he feels inescapable on our screens, particularly when you factor in his roles on HBO series like Barry, Succession, Boardwalk Empire, and Perry Mason. Not that we’re complaining: Root is the type of actor whose work will, ahem, plant a lasting impression in your mind.
