Theres some truth to that, but you can get a **** whirlpool or maytag all the same. Repair guy can be an interesting breed.

Side-Note: Repair men/women also are prune to biases, as well. My FIL has strong open on appliances from fixing them over the years as a repair man.
1. They hold grudges and these companies/quality shifts. Not to dissimilar to how Kia's quality has improved greatly while other cars quality may have dipped. But if you spend 20 years doing something, you tend to write off brands without giving them another chance.
2. What they do is different than what we want. I don't give a **** if the connector on an appliance is extremely hard to install, but he sure as hell does.
3. Customers have different expectations based on the price level. He absolutely hates one brand of dishwasher that was upper middle tier and part of it is I think the customers paid a premium for it and have more expectations on it not breaking down. If a $300 Frigidaire breaks down in 3 years, he doesn't know about it because the customer probably just buys a new one and moves on. But if the $800 dishwasher breaks down, he is called in to fix it with upset homeowners. So he is more likely to see the upper-midtier brand that customers would pay to have fixed.

All fair points. That said, I've had numerous appliances across all brands. The only ones to have broken down premature for me where Samsung and LG brands. I've had some minor repairs on the other brands, but those two I've not had good experience with, so I tend to side with the repair guy (and yea, I'm probably biased too now).

We've had our Samsung washer/dryer for closing in on a decade, and they survived a move. Haven't needed a single repair.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. My wife is pretty much dead set on going all in on Speed Queens. I looked at some reviews yesterday for cheaper alternatives and LGs were consistently in Top 5s.

It's like cars, people are all over the place based on their own experiences, which is normal. I've had a Samsung washing and dryer that lasted 10+ years with zero repairs.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Nice to hear that some have had success with Samsung. You rarely ever hear anything bad about their tv's but I think I have only ever heard complaints wrt their appliances.

Now that I'm of the age where I've had to purchase multiple household appliances, I swear by these brands:

laundry: Speed queen or Maytag: go for knobs and no digital led displays with touch screens. That **** breaks.
kitchen appliances: Miele
tv's: Samsung or Sony

This is part of the reason my wife wants the Speed Queens. 4 knobs, and that's it.

In my various appliance shopping trips over the past few years to replace everything in my house, I've had multiple people come up to me, unsolicitedly, and tell me to NOT buy Samsung appliances. Everyone obviously has their own experiences, but I've never had anyone come up to me at any store anywhere telling me not to buy something, so to have multiple people doing it regarding the same thing was definitely a cautionary sign to me.

I had a Samsung washer for a few years. Side load. It looked fancy and had bells and whistles (literally) but didn't last very long.

About two weeks ago, I bought a Speed Queen washing machine. It looks industrial, like something you'd find in a laundry mat. My wife hates how it looks, but it is very highly rated.

So far, so good.

I posted about Speed Queen, then saw this. Your wife might be on to something.

Since we're talking appliances, I bought a Wolf cooktop a few years ago and HIGHLY recommend that brand if you ever need a replacement. Great purchase. I cheaped out on a fridge and dishwasher and I'll never do that again. Especially the dishwasher. GE, I think. What a piece of crap lol.

We had an LG washer and dryer for 9 years before flooding in the basement destroyed them. No issues at all. The local sears was going out of business at that time so we got a killer deal on a kennore elite set. No issues at all with those since.

We also have an LG oven that we bought when we got our house in 2009. 16 years of trouble free use.

We got a side by side Samsung fridge when we first moved in. Had to be replaced within like a year because of what was apparently a common issue specific to the side by side models. We replaced it with a samsung French door model that had the freezer on the bottom. 15ish trouble free years.

If you dig, you'll find out that A LOT of the consumer brands are owned by the same company and built in the same factories.

I want one of those big restaurant dishwashers with the stainless steel doors that come up with levers and blast through everything in like 2 minutes. I'd probably have to have my whole house re-plumbed to accommodate it. The idiotic things I would do if I had money.

Have to fly to South Dakota for work. Asked if I could fly back Monday instead of Friday (it was cheaper too) so that my dad could meet me out there and we could go hike the Badlands and Needles. I’m excited.

I've resisted going to Colorado for my entire adult life because I just didn't think it could live up to the hype. We finally made the trip this past weekend and holy hell, what a mistake I made waiting this long. Just unbelievably beautiful and we will definitely be back. The most beautiful place I've ever been.

Next stop, Alaska. I think we're going to do Iceland next summer and Alaska the following year. Time to start checking stuff off the bucket list, because the bucket is getting closer.

Hey Mods, is RealGM.com fixing the weird issue that's popping up again where it constantly redirects to a fake site?

Last time this happened I think it was reported to be bad ad tech causing the problem.

Been seeing it for weeks on mobile taking me here:

Details? Where did you all go?

I love Colorado, albeit I spend most of my time going to Denver and Colorado Springs every December. Manitou Incline is probably my favorite activity ever and I really want to go to the sand dunes National Park.

Denver deserves its reputation. First time I visited a couple years ago I saw two separate people being treated on the side walk for ODs. My toddler was potty training and we were on the tourist 16th street trolley and he started crying and said "I peed". I was like "oh ****" as i looked at the puddle of piss under him. Then I looked closer and was like "oh ****" the homeless guy next to him was pissing his pants and the pee was running underneath my kid. That said, I do think it is a city that tries. Their Xmas decorations, light shows, drone shows, ice skating, parades, etc are fun and the downtown is still active. Every December I take my now 5 year old there to visit a friend and walk around the Christmas lights and then see how far we can make it up Manitou Incline. It is kind of fun making a little more progress each year with him being able to walk more.
