Yeah, I made comment how NBA really exaggerate their heights for no reason, and I mentioned Sabonis in particular, because that one is just dumb, it just made up out of nowhere, because it is not even close to reality. I somehow deleted the comment before posting, so you beat me at this...
No dunks crew talked about Charles Barkley, they used to work in same studio in Atlanta, and they always said Trey Kerby is taller than barkley, and Trey is 6'4 according to them. Bakley is famously very undersized, but NBA still listed him at 6'6 I believe, where in real peoples word, but was maybe 6'3 and a half.
We Euros caught up to that a long time ago I feel, when we talk prospects, we take that into consideration now. When Euro is listed 6'10 in Europe, we now all say in the NBA, that guy will instantly turn 7'0 and wont be shorter than most guys who are ''7 footers'' over there. Thats just how it is and everyone knows it.
What was Arvydas Sabonis real height? 220, 221, 222, 223 or 224. Or maybe less?
I think Arvydas was legit 7'3 guy, so around 222. When he was playing, they used to say his height was 222, but after retirement, when he invested in that clothing company that got called 220, because thats his height apparently, so now everyone in Lithuania says Arvydas is 220, tho I think they arounded the number to make it sound better on brand? I definitely do not think he was shorter than 220. But he is way taller than his son, Domantas is shorter than most of his match ups, he is like 6'10, he is strong tho, but him being listed 7'1 is just compliete lie and I do not know who came up with it, it is not even close to reality. Jonas in real life is around 6'11, but as we alreaydy talked about, by NBA standards he is 7'0, and hes taller than Sabonis is.
Most NBA players are shorter than listed, but we had opposite cases, like Kevin Durant forever listed at 6'9, but then he would stand to 7'1 listed Marc Gasol, and they were basically same height. You can just never trust NBA listed heights at all. KG was aso listed at 6'11, but he was taller than a lot of guys listed 7+.
Here is the ACB height listing for Sabonis, which is barefoot and pre NBA.
https://www.acb.com/jugador/temporada-a-temporada/id/20200678
Arvydas Sabonis
Equipo: Real Madrid
Dorsal: 11
Posición: Pívot
Altura: 2,22 m
So, according to his ACB listing from 1992, Sabonis was 7'3 1/2" barefoot.
Which actually sounds about right. Because I remember seeing an article where they said Shaq was over 7'2" in his playing shoes. It was some article from the time he was on the Lakers.
So, Sabonis would have been around 7'5" in shoes. And when him and Shaq used to play against each other, Sabonis was very clearly 2 to 3 inches taller than Shaq.
