It’s so obvious he doesn’t get it.
What you're thinking he is should have been what helped Butler and Bam but it wasn't, in fact, after the bubble year the only time Miami had success in the playoffs was when Herro was hurt and didn't play.
Here's his playoffs...
Age TS% ORTG
20 56% 106 <- promising rookie, played more off ball, Miami let him start handling the ball after his rookie season.
21 45% 92
22 49% 97
23 66% 120 (only played 19 minutes and he broke his hand)
24 51% 95
25 51% 98
He's skillful offensively (he is a hard worker) but physically he's not great which limits him especially in the playoffs.
I'll ask you and maybe you will give me answer that nobody else is willing to give. What trade are we going to make with Kuminga? I'll be interested to see what better alternatives you come up with.
I don't know who will become available during the season nor what injuries or weaknesses are exposed on GS by that time, I would expect that some teams with higher aspirations find out their build isn't as good as they want to be and need to hit a reset which may take multiple years.
You have to go with what the "expected" GS roster is going to look like, minus Kuminga to see what you may or may not need with the understanding of the players who will get less minutes for he new players. Just getting "value" from Kuminga may not really make the team better this year.
Guards only - Curry, Melton, Podz and quite possibly Seth Curry
Guards/SF - Hield, Moody, GP2
SF/PF - Butler
PF - Green, Santos
C - Horford, Post, TJD
For this version of the Warriors, you'd have to say there's a real opening at the backup wing for Kuminga but if he doesn't want a lesser role with a possibility of doing more in the next couple of years. Right now GS biggest need may be another wing, even if it's a lesser talented player than Kuminga which GS seems to be good with if adding another 1st rounder with for future team building.
If Kuminga would sign the 3 year contract, play the role Kerr wants with this current build, and gain Kerr's trust he might be one of the main guys of the next build, but he has to wait his turn and do what is needed to help this team win based on what the coach wants, not what Kuminga wants.
I do think Kuminga has it in him to be a difference maker but I don't think he has enough talent to alter a roster to make him happy. If your end goal is competing for a championship. Also... yes, if you havd any idea that Curry had some more great years left in him Kuminga probably should have been moved before this time although I think the FO/Ownership hoped Kuminga would have bought in with his role by now because I think he could be a 20 ppg guy even playing a role vs being an engine of the offense.
