The obvious weakest link in the starting lineup is the Center spot, but I'm not sure a better option exists and most other lineup questions might be better reconsidered after we have a chance to see what influence the 2 new offensive=minded asst. coaches have. It's far from inconceivable that quite a few guys who couldn't throw a ball in the ocean last season revert (at least) to the average or maybe even better in a faster-paced offense with significantly more playmaking and shooting firepower added.
The blockbuster candidates would be Suggs -which I wouldn't do. The next tier of (perhaps) marketable assets would be Goga, AB, possibly even Mo (if he wanted to look for more money elsewhere-with our blessing). Penda's level of readiness could have a real impact on JI's future here. We have no significant draft equity. Even a disappointment like Jett is worth taking a longer look at, IMO, versus paying to get off of his expiring deal. The biggest change of the offseason has got to be a revamping of the offense. I think they've done very well but it's still not apparent where the holes are. We'll know a lot more as the season goes on and we see slim Isaac, mature Penda, "even better as a pro Jase", etc. Maybe Goga will leap ahead of WCJ and WCJ's contract will look really undesirable to us, Isaac will cross the point of no salvation, AB might grumble about his limited role vs upcoming extension, Tyus might look like a miracle dishing out orderly and efficient assists to the point that FO taps out on the "No PG" offense...I'm not necessarily rooting for any of these scenarios-but there are many ways things unfold.
Even my ridiculous brain doesn't even have an idea of who fits, who's redundant, who's at their highest value, etc...I'm kind of hoping for a quiet time at least until the TD because we're not really sure how it will all come together. I really hope that our next move(s) are geared towards contending, not scrambling to cut payroll.
that is as close to ..i really like this team ...i have seen you post...lol
I get it...but I also smell a little of the old "why do you hate that guy?" if I propose a trade, which has never been my mentality. Unless a team is PERFECT, then there are things worth pondering and discussing. Some shake out and quickly fail under further discussion and some don't. Saying NO to everything because a player is good or popular or "family" is missing the whole exercise.
Ignoring our top 3 guys because there stock might not really go anywhere.
Present Highs = chance to sell high
AB, Jase, Penda, WCJ
Present Low
Goga, Isaac, Jett
Looking at the low category. All 3 of those guys likely have a chance to retain some to all value. Isaac, again, if healthy is a monster on defense. This is not contestable. Goga on the other hand, once you get past his spot defense, he provides somehow less then Isaac does on offense.
Jett, on paper, is THE GUY to recoup value. He just has to be pedestrian on defense, and I worry that it just isn't him. Otherwise, he has showcased a shot. Granted, he couldn't earn a spot on a team that desperately needing shooting, but at the same time he wasn't going to go out there and shoot 8 a game.
