how so?
To me - it’s the pause and look back on dunk signature move - lame.
It’s the not putting a hand up to “diss” an opponent who can actually shoot let them get 3’s off.
Taking BS shots. Taking tech ft to boost his ppg all star case when no where near the best ft shooting option.
Pascal, Fred and previous Raps and coaches were winners and serious people. If there was issues with them - I think the issue is Scottie, not them. Pascal is still a better player than Barnes and Fred is a way better leader, as evident in Houston.
When Scottie walks off the floor early the org lies about addressing it with them to try and get the heat off while likely realizing - they can’t really criticize him.
I suspect Scottie lobbied hard to have them take Mogbo, being long time friends and at his place at the draft. That pick was a significant asset, as the 1st pick of 2nd round, and it seems like they have absolutely no expectations for it. As if the role is just to keep Scotty happy. If that happened that’s on Masai at the end of the day.
This and not looking to score for 3q’s sometimes just to try and look like a 4th quarter scorer.
I’d just like to see a guy with Scottie’s skill set to be an elite glue guy - because while he has the expectations of being the man without the typical “man” type ability as a 1st option scorer. But I think he’s still all about his individual awards and all star and DPOY - and not focused on doing what intakes to make this team win and then let the rewards come. It’s like he didn’t have to earn anything- it was all space made for him to walk into and his progress has not been linear. The growth in year 3 was proven to be a blip in year 4.
Again, these are observations from my couch, so they know better than me, but I’d hate be to proven that they saw this too, but did nothing because it wasn’t obvious to all. And by the time it is, just have a very overpaid diminished asset we can’t move for value to make us better. I only want to move players to get better. I don’t think we have any problem type guys on the roster where’s I have any issue getting behind if we come out and look like we’re going somewhere. I have more Scottie Barnes merch than any other player on the roster- I’m just not the type that puts affinity for him above affinity for the team.
Scottie is a potentially super elite glue guy - problem is he’s making first option money - And now we have to pay another first option guy. this means everything else has to be true value contracts, and our m.o. is to excuse and expect overpays in our market and not blame anyone. So it doesn’t seem like a great model.
