You don't want to choose a name than can be made fun of.

Araptors.. Braptors..

Nothing wrong with Raptors

As a Pistons fan you shouldn't talk. In a world moving towards electric cars, pistons will be extinct. Dodo birds have an even worse wingspan. :naaa:

When Toronto was awarded its NBA expansion franchise in 1993–94, the ownership group ran a nationwide “Name the Team” contest in 1994. Thousands of submissions came in, and the public was given a shortlist to vote on.

The final ten names on the ballot were:
1. Beavers
2. Bobcats
3. Dragons
4. Grizzlies
5. Hogs
6. Scorpions
7. T-Rex
8. Tarantulas
9. Terriers
10. Raptors

“Raptors” ultimately won, heavily influenced by the popularity of Jurassic Park (released in 1993). The runner-up was reportedly “Hogs”.

I said this many thimes, but Toronto Raptors has to be the team with the most wasted potential when it comes to logos and stuff. Raptors were such fierce, dynamic and even aerodynamic looking creatures, imagine how cool artists could portray them, but their first go at logo and mascot was literally Poochie the dog NBA edition, with basically purple Barney the dinosaur as mascot, And their next logo is something I could legit draw in few minutes, the infamous watermelon looking clawed basketball. Its embarrassing how this team wasted its name.

I remember this. Still can't believe "Huskies", the original Toronto NBA team name, wasn't on the list....but then the management was going for the future fans, not the past ones. Gotta give them credit, they tapped a market that wasn't made up of just Leafs fans, and did it successfully.

Toronto Titans would’ve went hard.. Tennessee Titans was trademarked in 98 before their debut in 1999. Apart from the Cavaliers, Spurs, and Lakers, no other NBA team’s city or region starts with the same letter as its team name... They might have their reasons.

Were they? Both were better as the Mighty Ducks and especially the Devil Rays.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.
