It would be odd for Giannis to do all this legacy talk during the offseason and then decide he wants to go somewhere else.

I don't know. I think it only would take a hit locally. He's going into year 13 year, man -- he's played a whole-ass career already. And the legacy upside of leading the Knicks to a title, even as a mercenary, would be very big. It's now been longer since the Knicks won it than it'd been since we won our first when we won our 2nd. Taking two franchises with long track records of futility to the promised land, and one of them is the Knicks. It wouldn't be bad, that's for sure. It'd be at least as good as winning another one here, I bet, just because it's friggin New yawwwwwwwwwk eyy whateva happenda Gary Coopah

grew up there. if he were to go to the knicks... and win.... it would be triumphant and huge worldwide.....not just in ny but literally the planet. he'd probably shoot straight to many top 5 GOAT lists and insure multi billionaire status while he'd be young enough to enjoy it

part of me would even like to see it. just so as long as we dont get EFFED in the process id be ok with it...might even support it if i knew him going there would give him that legacy by winning another and a reboot for another decade of decent basketball at home

I bought into that theory a few years back. And think it was true. But now? No. Those 2031 and 2032 picks are so far out that Giannis is either retired or a non-factor in those years.

And those picks are so far out that frankly I’m not sure they’re worth that much to other teams either.

He's literally spelling it out for us and being 100% honest. He's committed to the team this season. "In 6-7 months" that could change, i.e. if things really go south with this group, then maybe it's time to part ways.

I think this is right.

He definitely could be handling it better.

But it’s not because he is scripting out a LeBron kind of passive aggressive pressure campaign.

And I don’t see him pulling a Jimmy / AD / Dame long haul scorched earth strategy to get to a particular team…

Then again barring a corrupt Luka situation (possible!) I just don’t see how the Knicks beat the best offers the Spurs and Rockets could make.

I bought into that theory a few years back. And think it was true. But now? No. Those 2031 and 2032 picks are so far out that Giannis is either retired or a non-factor in those years.

And those picks are so far out that frankly I’m not sure they’re worth that much to other teams either.

It's a fun theory but I just don't see Giannis as that much of a 3d chess guy. He's human and I bet the so called "noise" he's referring to with the media gets to him more than he likes to let on. If that's the case then we're running out the clock on the Giannis era because that will never stop. The media will forever hold it against him as long as he's here.

Personally, I believe Giannis is done with losing in the first round, especially to the Pacers players. In other words, I believe what he says. The Knicks are also tired of losing to the Pacers, and they're the best team in the East with Giannis (especially now that Myles Turner signed elsewhere). Part of me thinks this Bucks team could surprise and we make it out of the first round this year, which prompts Giannis to stay. But if we don't, again, I believe Giannis.

If he’s sick of losing in the first round he should play in that round. I don’t buy the narrative that Horst and his drafting is to blame. The lineups we’ve had the past few years, even with the Middleton injury, should be getting out of the first round. Giannis is part of us not winning.

GM's receive a plethora of calls from other GM's. Virtually every player is discussed at some point. Kicking the tires. The Knicks aren't the first and won't be the last. And Horst "taking their call" is what a GM should do.

I'm not going to sweat it or analyze/overanalyze every little thing. That's pointless. I'll just continue to enjoy watching Giannis until he's no longer a Buck. And then I'll continue to root for whoever is on my team.

His “day by day” comment seems more in regards to leading the team.

Was struck more by the specificity of “Now, in 6 or 7 months if I change my mind, I think that’s human too”.

That timeline matches up exactly with an early playoff elimination in April or May.

Sounds like if he asks out it’d be before draft day. Which is only fair if the team would be stockpiling picks for another big trade by then.

if youre setting a "6-7 month timetable" while your also taking it "day by day"...thats talking out of both sides of your mouth. imagine any one of us pubically saying that in our organizations to the people we work with or for. its a massive dick move his quote. if id played with a guy like that id confront him.

Lol, imagine any of us working for the same organization for ten years and people getting pissed because we leave and want to live in a different city. 1. No one is asking me publicly what my plans are 2. Most people leave their jobs with a 2 weeks notice and the business gets no compensation.

I think he's saying that the "I'm leaving" card to pump up value doesn't work for 2031 because honestly it is probably more valuable if he is here because he will be less impactful and probably a lottery team after we use up all our assets between now and then.
