Antetokounmpo said that while he considers his options during the offseason, something that he has publicly discussed doing for years, any consideration of another opportunity ends when the season begins.
“I’ve always wanted to be in Milwaukee. I always wanted to represent the city. As long as we have the opportunity to win and I feel like we have an opportunity to win. … So I’m here. Milwaukee Bucks, I’m here.
“There’s going to be a lot of people that are going to approach me or going to approach my agents and they’re going to say, ‘Hey, this is a possibility, that’s a possibility,’” Antetokounmpo said. “But at the end of the day, ultimately, I’m going to make a decision. My decision today is that I’m here. And I’m committed to this team.”
Antetokounmpo said that while he is familiar with the rumors and reporting surrounding his future, some of his newer teammates have not been through that before and may be affected by it. He knows he will need to continue to validate his teammates and lead with his own actions, but hopes that Wednesday will be the end of distractions surrounding his name.
“I think after this interview here, I’m not going to see it,” Antetokounmpo said. “You guys are going to see it. It’s going to have you guys’ names on there. Report from Jim (Owczarski) and Eric (Nehm): ‘Giannis is committed to Milwaukee and committed to this team.’ And it’s going to end it.”
