Eric Nehm filed:

Antetokounmpo said that while he considers his options during the offseason, something that he has publicly discussed doing for years, any consideration of another opportunity ends when the season begins.

“I’ve always wanted to be in Milwaukee. I always wanted to represent the city. As long as we have the opportunity to win and I feel like we have an opportunity to win. … So I’m here. Milwaukee Bucks, I’m here.

“There’s going to be a lot of people that are going to approach me or going to approach my agents and they’re going to say, ‘Hey, this is a possibility, that’s a possibility,’” Antetokounmpo said. “But at the end of the day, ultimately, I’m going to make a decision. My decision today is that I’m here. And I’m committed to this team.”

Antetokounmpo said that while he is familiar with the rumors and reporting surrounding his future, some of his newer teammates have not been through that before and may be affected by it. He knows he will need to continue to validate his teammates and lead with his own actions, but hopes that Wednesday will be the end of distractions surrounding his name.

“I think after this interview here, I’m not going to see it,” Antetokounmpo said. “You guys are going to see it. It’s going to have you guys’ names on there. Report from Jim (Owczarski) and Eric (Nehm): ‘Giannis is committed to Milwaukee and committed to this team.’ And it’s going to end it.”

The Knicks are also tired of losing to the Pacers, and they're the best team in the East with Giannis (especially now that Myles Turner signed elsewhere). Part of me thinks this Bucks team could surprise and we make it out of the first round this year, which prompts Giannis to stay. But if we don't, again, I believe Giannis.

If he’s sick of losing in the first round he should play in that round. I don’t buy the narrative that Horst and his drafting is to blame. The lineups we’ve had the past few years, even with the Middleton injury, should be getting out of the first round. Giannis is part of us not winning.

This year is gonna be rough with the media. Giannis and the team are gonna be getting this question every time they’re in front of a mic. And if we start the season slowly…. **** is gonna be unbearable

That's all well and good as long as he remembers that 2 of those years we lost because he was injured.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'm not going to sweat it or analyze/overanalyze every little thing. That's pointless. I'll just continue to enjoy watching Giannis until he's no longer a Buck. And then I'll continue to root for whoever is on my team.

This. This situation is so far out of my control that it makes no sense to me to sweat it. Not to mention that we don’t even know fact from fiction. If Giannis is here, GO BUCKS. If Giannis is gone, GO BUCKS.

That timeline matches up exactly with an early playoff elimination in April or May.

Sounds like if he asks out it’d be before draft day. Which is only fair if the team would be stockpiling picks for another big trade by then.

if youre setting a "6-7 month timetable" while your also taking it "day by day"...thats talking out of both sides of your mouth. imagine any one of us pubically saying that in our organizations to the people we work with or for. its a massive dick move his quote. if id played with a guy like that id confront him.

Lol, imagine any of us working for the same organization for ten years and people getting pissed because we leave and want to live in a different city. 1. No one is asking me publicly what my plans are 2. Most people leave their jobs with a 2 weeks notice and the business gets no compensation.

I bought into that theory a few years back. And think it was true. But now? No. Those 2031 and 2032 picks are so far out that Giannis is either retired or a non-factor in those years.

And those picks are so far out that frankly I’m not sure they’re worth that much to other teams either.

The idea of Giannis being a non factor in those years makes those picks extremely valuable.

I think he's saying that the "I'm leaving" card to pump up value doesn't work for 2031 because honestly it is probably more valuable if he is here because he will be less impactful and probably a lottery team after we use up all our assets between now and then.

It's a fun theory but I just don't see Giannis as that much of a 3d chess guy. He's human and I bet the so called "noise" he's referring to with the media gets to him more than he likes to let on. If that's the case then we're running out the clock on the Giannis era because that will never stop. The media will forever hold it against him as long as he's here.

You know what ends all that noise is winning having a season that will shut up all the media. You don’t hear that much for jokic because they didn’t get knocked out in first round and to media it don’t matter who was hurt. I really like this team it has a lot of potential especially defensively.

I wasn't the one that made the first comparison. I'm the one saying it's different.

In this day and age, I don't get why people think a guy like him should have some unbreakable loyalty to the Bucks* when he is just a human being. He's not from here, his family isn't from here, he didn't ask to come here. He has signed multiple contracts with us and gave us all he had that included a ring. As long as he leaves gracefully, there are no hard feelings

*Again, except for the abstract fans, who is he being loyal to? An owner, GM, coaches, teammates, training facility, stadium, workers, etc have all turned over since he has been here.

Yeah, that's what I meant by earlier when I said that Giannis is almost too honest. He's being **** on by some fans here for not slamming the door on ever asking out, even though he's saying what we all pretty much knew.

I don't get the additional angst, frankly. He's up for an extension next fall. We knew that next summer was going to be the tipping point, one way or another. Maybe the team will surprise in a weak conference, and Horst will push the chips in again and pick up a difference maker that keeps Giannis here. Or, maybe we'll have another disappointing season, and Giannis will surprise absolutely no one by declining any extension offer and asking out.

But that's where we we've been since the season ended. So, what's everyone panicking about? Nothing has changed.

Just watched the Giannis presser from today. I find it hard to read it any other way than he is committing full on for this entire season. 6 to 7 months from now is well after the trade deadline. it's basically the end of the season. so this is what we needed to hear and i'm very glad that he recognized that and did it. now we can move on and hope that we are able to put something together in order to keep him.

Panic and angst? It’s just a discussion.
Yes Giannis is free to make another choice. The Bucks are also free to make another choice, possibly before Giannis does.

On with the season. Rah!

if anybody else on our team made comments like that theyd be mocked and thrown off the squad. your point is not made. if any of us were in any positions of leadership or on a team of people with specific long and short term goals and others were counting on us and we spoke this way we'd also get the side eye treatment.

no idea what kind of work youre in but obviously im referring to the types of employees that are actually important to their organizations. most arent and if thats you then thats why you might not be able to relate to my comment

b0th you two are flat out wront. he has a gauranteed contract for the next two seasons and a player option after that. he comes out with the 6-7 month comment before this year hes being a straight up dick.

6-7 months what? then what giannis? what about 6-7 months?

talking like that is conduct detrimental to the team. dont try and defend it

He literally can't sign an extension right now. The 6-7 months thing is a throwaway comment because it's actually 12-months until he's eligible to re-sign, but the gist is the same ("we'll see" with this roster). Stop being so obtuse about it and doing everything you can to paint the most beloved franchise superstar ever as some sort of narcissistic locker room cancer.
