He was measured 6'9 at the combine at age 20. Supposedly grew 4 inches after that

Are you sure about that? The rules of the day were you weren't draft eligible as a foreign entry person until your college class would have graduated, which means Sabonis wasn't eligible for the draft until he was 22. In addition, being behind the Iron Curtain, he wasn't really allowed to engage with NBA teams--that was done through a Soviet Basketball official liaison. On top of that, I understood that he was drafted originally in 1985 (which was invalidated because he was too young) and in 1986 without being made available to any NBA team.
It's pretty well documented that he joined the Soviet team as a 17 year old. As a 17yo, he was listed at 209cm, and by the time he was 18 he supposedly grew 12cm more. That's not that unusual for these giants. And when he was at peak draftability like in 1986, he was clearly taller than David Robinson at the FIBA championships. You can see below some footage, which of course is at an angle and you rarely see them standing straight next to each other, but it looks like when he would have been eligible for the combine he was signficantly larger than Robinson. And by the way--I think you meant the Chicago Rookie Camp, as the NBA draft combine didn't come into being until later years I don't think (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
And not trying to beat you up or anything. Just these nuances of history are interesting and I want to make sure I get them right.
