Everyone outside Poeltl is 6' 9" and under now.
Everyone outside two new guys including this scrub is 6' 8" and under. Yeah, allergic to size is right.
Which would you generally prefer 1) a guy that is 7 foot with standing reach of 8' 10", or 2) a guy that is 6' 9" with a 8' 10" standing reach?
I don't know why this piece of BS is still being thrown around when this team's been pathetic without Poeltl for a good reason. There's only so much wingspan can cover when they can just push you around just as easily as any other 6' 9" body. And there are plenty of long-armed guys that are 6' 10" and taller; it's just that FO has been allergic to bigs with true size/height fit for the position
This is just plain wrong. Your "height" can only tell you so much. You can have two guys with identical bodies, but their neck / head size can make one guy 6'9" and the other 6'11". The length of your neck doesn't help you defend your position at all.
Your wingspan and weight/strength are way better indicators of your ability to guard bigger guys. GENERALLY, height is a good indicator of those other things, but it on its own it useless.
We have been pathetic without Poeltl because we have not had a backup C is true - but we also sucked when we had Orlando Robinson and Collin Castleton who were traditional C sized. It is not like you just get a 7 footer and your problems are solved. The guy has to actually be able to play the damn game.
Shockingly - there are very few 7 footers who are mobile, smart, and skilled enough to effectively play NBA basketball.
