Why do you say that? There are several teams he'd probably get more playing time on.

Because I would think, that just in case he needs/wants a S&T, he wants to keep his Bird rights alive.

If he gets traded, the acquiring team does not get his Bird Rights.

Ah, I didn’t realize we’d have his bird rights next summer. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Guess we'll see, but both those guys are younger... and likely doesn't hurt that they've had the opportunity to actually contribute within the teams actual roster and prove value.

I can't get mad at Morey for not paying 20-25 million to Quentin for the situation he actually contributed at a high level in and that he didn't exactly kill it in his role when the team was trying. If he can contribute this year in his realistic role...I think it could cost them some extra money, but they can keep him or trade him

Daniels and Sharpe are three years younger. In theory, they have greater potential. Also they're much more important parts of the projects those teams are building. Plus, they've also proven themselves a bit more on the NBA court.

I like Grimes, but he hasn't proved to be a player that contributes to winning and in all fairness, he's really redundant in the near future with Maxey - VJ and McCain already here.

Would be plain stupid to pay him that much money, especially given the fact the league doesn't value him that high either (otherwise, someone would have offered him a bigger contract). So don't know if he would have great trade value at 20 million/year.

Pretty sure his contract (+ Oubre's) will be in the market come february in exchange for a 4

... Grimes in trouble. I don't know what they were offering him, but VJ ain't gonna let him get the chance to build his value for next year.

They were offering him the QO. They want to be able to duck the tax if they are a bad team again this year.

However, if Grimes plays his role and contributes to (even limited) winning this year, he will get paid. Possibly here, as they will have full Bird rights.

Not anywhere near 30M, obviously.

The tricky part is his non-trade clause. Since the acquiring team will only get the opportunity to offer Grimes 8.7*1.25 = 10.9m, there's not that a lot of incentive for Grimes to consent.
With the current CBA/Apron rules it is already incredibly tricky to trade a player, when players have non-trade clauses it makes it almost impossible.

I agree that the added value of Grimes for the 15m-20m range gets a bit tricky considering our current guard rotation, but Grimes was probably the only realistic option to acquire a valuable big wing/forward. That lack of optionality sucks.

So can we sign him to an extension while he's on this QO, or does he have to hit unrestricted free agency?

He's going to be playing the best basketball of his life. It's games like the one tonight against Orlando where he shows what value he really brings to the table. No Embiid and the the 76ers are playing well. Let's see what he can do.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

I’ve got a hot take. I wanna see Grimes start over Edgecombe and play 48 mins a game. It’d be a win win as this would save VJ and Maxeys legs a bit while Grimes would be able to pad his stats for that next contract. Plus, Grimes is balling out so there shouldn’t be much of a drop off if any in terms of overall team performance

My gut tells me Grimes should stay in the second unit, where he has the freedom to play his own game and anchor the bench. If he plays with the starters, he might stray from the team’s system, especially since he’s clearly motivated to earn his next contract.
