If Portland goes cold for 5 minutes that doesn’t mean their shots were well defended. Likewise if the Wolves make shots for 5 minutes it doesn’t mean they were open or good. I watched Bones play, and I would call him a net negative who provided little if any value. His defense was poor and led to several open Blazers shots. His offense was unremarkable, and did nothing to create for his teammates. Simply being on the floor when things went well is not the same as making them go well.
Anthony Edwards was due to sit. Mike Conley was due to sit. Would you rather they had Donte run the offense again?
We needed to just hold serve, to allow Ant to get back in the game. Bones did that. I will concede looking back, the margin wasn't narrowed in while Ant was resting. It was a 7-point game when he checked out and a 7-point game when Ant checked back. In the 3 minutes Ant and Bones shared though, they cut the deficit to 2 points. The biggest difference though in that stretch Bones was on his own was no live-ball turnovers. You can say that's not a big deal, but it was last night for this team with the exception of only a select few. Bones was one of those few.
