So, as long as the owner is willing to spend the money and let people do their job, everything is fixable.

Vivek doesn't check any of those boxes. So my answer is Sacramento.

I am pretty sure Gayle Benson doesn't even know she owns the Pelicans.

It's the Charlotte Hornets. They are so bad that they occupy the top two options for this post question, because the Pelicans used to be the Hornets.

Horner of the last 20 years is… Kemba Walker? Ball is more talented than Kemba, but Kemba was a winning player that actually made the playoffs once of twice I think?

Technically, they are the same team.

Charlotte Hornets -> New Orleans Hornets -> New Orleans Pelicans
Charlotte Bobcats -> Charlotte Hornets

That's a level of irrelevance none of the other teams truly match

And currently, they've tanking around Lamelo for 5 years now

The Sacramento Kings just rolled out a starting lineup of Dennis Schroeder, Russell Westbrook, DeMar Derozan, Domantas Sabonis, and Zach Lavine the other day. I don't know everything going on with those other teams but if they're getting more votes than the team doing this then things must be bad.

I think for intertwining historically, the original Hornets should be counted in the Pels history. Hornets/Pels is one franchise, and Bobcats/Hornets is the other.

Charlotte

- Original and very popular team got moved to New Orleans
- Worst team all-time (the 7 win team) only to not get AD.
- Missed out on Dwight by a pick.
- Missed out on CP3 by a pick, he went to New Orleans too, which is extra bad.
- Went backwards in the lottery in the Wemby draft.
- Current team is cursed by injuries to Melo and Brandon.
- MJ being a cheapskate owner. Selling draft picks, bad team infrastructure etc.
- Other owners (before the newest ones) also being cheapskates and bad.
- Lots of bad draft picks. Adam Morrison, Vonleh, Kai Jones. Bouknight etc.
- Spent the post-Jefferson years not having a center, then drafted Mark Williams, only for him to be cursed by injuries.
- We traded SGA for Miles Bridges (hindsight, but still)
- Signed Lance Stephenson who then forgot how to play basketball.
- Signed Nic Batum only for him to stop caring about playing basketball and had to be bought out/stretched.
- Signed Gordon Hayward only for him to become injury prone and regress.
- Haven't won a playoff series since the 90's or whenever it was.
- Haven't made the playoffs in a decade, in which we got swept by LeBron.
- Made the play-in twice, got blown out twice.

I mean, it's not even close. The Pelicans/NOH teams had CP3 or AD for a while. The Wizards had some decent playoff teams with Wall/Beal. The Kings had some fun teams even if they weren't that good. The Hornets/Bobcats haven't been relevant in thirty years.

we should relegate all these teams to a league right above the g-league and have them have to win a championship to get back in the NBA and the team with the worse record taking their place in the B- league!

I have to agree with the Charlotte call. Although they did have the league leader in 3 pointers made in a season one year with JRich. And I still want one of those NASCAR checkered stripe jerseys even though I dont care at all about NASCAR.

The question isn’t which city you would like to get a beer in or try to get laid. The question is the past and present success and failures of a franchise.

The Pels aren’t even remotely close to the Jazz from a historical perspective. Not even up for debate.

The Jazz have a million draft picks incoming and the Pels have a broken Zion and traded away their FRP this year.

And don’t hit me with stars don’t want to go to Utah. They don’t want to be in NO either. When was the last big name free agent that the Pels signed? And AD and CP3 both got out of NO and weren’t trying to go back.

There really is only a few big cities guys want to go to. It’s LA, Miami, NY, and Chicago and Boston. And NY and Chi have done such a poor job from a management perspective over the past 20+ years they have fumbled their advantage. So really we got three teams in LA, Miami, and Boston who have a location advantage and maximized it or made the most of it. Maybe you could argue Texas teams because of the tax incentives as well. But no one is pushing for NO, Char, Sac, UT, ATL, etc, etc.

I don’t see a single point that someone could argue NO has a better situation than UT (or just about any other team) other than “NO is cool and SLC sucks”. Which is a lazy take and has nothing to do with building a team. No one wants to be in OKC and yet they built a champion level team who are going to compete for the next decade.

The CBA dictates good managed teams are going to become the better teams. It takes time but that’s how it’s going to work. Dumars clearly isn’t up to the task of building a good team. Trading away the FRP for the 13th pick when you don’t have a good solid team and the pick could end up going number 1 in a loaded draft is up there with trading Luka away. And I have to think Dumars got clearance from ownership for the trade so clearly the owners of NO aren’t up to the task either.

Maybe the Hornets should go back to being the Bobcats?

At least the Pelicans have drafted CP3, AD, Zion. They have had some bad luck but they have assembled some semi passable rosters that never quite took that next step. Go look at Charlotte's draft history and scroll for a while, it reads as nothing but sadness:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHA/draft.html

I always suspected that New Orleans got a couple of "gifts" in the draft, same with Cleveland. With what happened this year I wouldn't at all be surprised if something was rigged for them with the AD and Zion drafts.

NO doesn’t own their own pick this year. Dumars traded it away for Derrick Queen. Which is exactly why many are voting for NO over Sacramento or Char because as long as Dumars is running the ship in NO people dont trust that organization to make good moves.

Minnesota has the worst all time winning percentage by a fair margin. Things are ok now so we forget that. Nets, Charlotte, and Clippers are also down there.
Charlotte seems like the answer though due to playoff drought, but you could legitimately argue a handful of teams

To be fair to not just Char, but any team…

I don’t think you can blame a team for being unlucky in the draft. If they passed on good players or traded them away, sure. But expecting to get a number one pick and dropping in the draft isn’t on the team/management.

The lottery is better than it used to be. But it still has problems. Teams like Dallas and the Spurs should not have gotten Wemby/Flagg. Changes need to be made to give teams that are bad multiple years better odds in the draft so teams that are bad for one year like the Spurs done don’t get the number one pick. We need a system that gets more high level players on teams who have been for multiple years to help teams like Char, Wash, NO, and recently UT.

Dallas did not “deserve” Flagg in last years draft. And I would say the same thing if Indy won the number 1 pick this year.

I don’t think a team should be able to get the number 1-3 pick unless they have been in the lottery multiple years. That would help these bad teams rise up faster and balance the league out. Or at least give a much larger ratio/percentage to teams who have been in the lotto for multiple years.

I don’t want to see any team with a 20 year history of losing. Teams should in general be good for 5-10 years and bad for 3-5 years with the way the CBA is constructed. It would be the best thing for the league IMO.

It's easily Charlotte as the Hornets/Bobcats.They've only made the playoffs 10 times since being founded in '88 and have only 3 seasons of 50 wins or more and have never made it to a conference finals. They also only have 4 playoff series wins and last time they won a playoff series dates back to 2001.

What makes matters worse is the amount of talent they've had over the decades from Zo,Johnson,Curry,Davis,Jackson,Jefferson,
Walker,Ball...ect have little to show for it.

Even other dumpster fires like my Wolves and teams like the Clippers & Kings have had hire of highs in terms of playoff success and more winning seasons.

The Pelicans

I don’t think anyone gives a **** over there

Team has literally 0 redeeming qualities

Has anyone been excited for the Pelicans? Worst name in sports. Their arena is like Jamba Juice or some ****, wtf??

Never a contender, no history, no meaningful purpose other than existing in New Orleans. So many markets they could transfer to.

Apparently, we're not allowed to say that word. I do, however, think we're allowed to say all of the following alternatives: poop, excrement, feces, stool, dung, turd, doodie, the deuce, unbaked brownie, butt dumpling and stinkin' McNugget. :D
