Mavs should have gotten AR in Luka's trade. It's over now. AR is 6 years younger, without injury concerns, probably better Pg, better in drawing fouls and looks to be capable of scoring similar numbers. I would get rid of Kyrie at latest next season, not necessarily for AR, although he looks like great fit with Flagg.

They are going to build that team around Luka. Pelinka has a history of signing his star players best friends. If Luka wants Kyrie (we already know they fit like a glove together) they will get him. Plus the Labron factor.

He might like AR even more, they're inseparable. LeBron is gone next season. Their target is Giannis.

Mavs should get some FRPs for Kyrie not a star.

True. Luka and Reaves do have good chemistry on the court. Also I have no doubt that Giannis is going to end up in LA.

I agree that with Kyrie’s age and injury history he’s not going to bring back a star player in a trade. Who don’t think would be the teams most likely to want Kyrie? Bucks or Nuggets are who I’m thinking could use Kyrie. I have no idea what assets they might have that realistically make sense.

This is from a Miami Heat twitter page. This might give an idea of AD’s trade value.

AD to San Antonio feels like it will definitely happen. A semi healthy AD and Wemby is a nightmare in the POs for other teams.

Or Miami. I would also see what the market for Kyrie is.

I’ve been reading that Houston has a serious interest in Kyrie Irving. Obviously the Mavs won’t get a star player for Kyrie but what assets do the Rockets have?

It would be extremely hard for Rockets to land Kyrie without the 3rd party. They have too many veterans that Mavs wouldn't want back unless it comes with at least one promising young player, which HOU has a lot of. But they're on a smaller contracts and salaries would need to be close.

You can see it here.

I’m cool with getting a 3rd team involved. Mavs need draft picks.

Y'all it's Christmas morning!!!

So, will there be a complete rebuild, moving AD and Kyrie, or a toe in the water for someone like Jrue?

First thing they need to find a competent GM. I guess Dumont suddenly trusts Cuban again lol...

[MacMahon] Minority owner Mark Cuban.. has mapped out a plan for the front office's future. According to sources, Cuban hopes to hire Dennis Lindsey.. they have been in frequent dialogue in recent months, a significant change after Cuban was pushed completely out of basketball operations last season.

Btw... This was Mavs GM. I hope whoever defended Nico all this time can finally understand Dennis Lindsey was the real brain behind Mavs success.

[Cato] There had been signs that Harrison was underwater in his front office role. In the first years, executives found it curious how difficult it was to reach him on the phone... One team source recalls a document where Harrison placed Jrue Holiday within the same tier of talent as Nikola Jokić.

Now that Nico is out, I want a rebuild around Flagg. Trade AD for the best possible package. Trade D-Lo Klay, Martin if possible. If Kyrie wants out too, work with him on it but if he doesn't that is fine as well. Kyrie is still someone good to have around young players.

Tank this year and shoot for a Top 3 pick.

That's like going back to an ex who allowed you to date her best friend, not telling you how crazy she was. At least Cuban knows how talented Lindsey is.

Category | Projection / Action
---------------------|------------------------------------------------------------
Philosophy | Balanced rebuild with defensive identity and long-term asset growth
Win Projection | 39–42 wins (2025–26)
Cap Flexibility | High by 2026–27 (via veteran trades and expiring deals)
Playoff Odds | ~45% (competitive floor, upside with Flagg development)
Key Roster Moves | - Retain Cooper Flagg\n- Trade Kyrie Irving for picks/expirings\n- Move Gafford for wing depth\n- Sign veteran stabilizers (e.g., Delon Wright, Royce O’Neale)\n- Draft high-IQ role players
Coaching Strategy | Hire a defensive-minded coach (e.g., Charles Lee or Jordi Fernández)
Front Office Culture | Expand scouting and analytics; emphasize internal development and draft value

Strategic Notes
• Draft Focus: Lindsey excels at identifying undervalued talent (e.g., Gobert at #27, Mitchell at #13).
• Cap Management: Known for clearing space while maintaining competitiveness.
• Locker Room Stability: Prioritizes character and fit—expect fewer volatile personalities.

Year | Win Total | Playoff Odds | Cap Flexibility | Key Roster Moves | Draft Strategy | Coaching/Staff Moves
-----|-----------|---------------|------------------|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------|-----------------------
2025–26 | 39–42 | ~45% | ~$20M (2026) | - Trade Kyrie for picks/expirings\n- Move Gafford for wing depth\n- Sign Delon Wright, Royce O’Neale | Target high-IQ role players (e.g., Proctor) | Hire Charles Lee or Jordi Fernández
2026–27 | 44–47 | ~65% | ~$12M (2027) | - Extend Flagg\n- Sign mid-tier FA (e.g., Jaden Ivey)\n- Draft versatile wing | Two-way wings, defensive versatility | Expand analytics and scouting teams
2027–28 | 48–52 | ~80% | Near tax line | - Package picks for All-Star wing (e.g., Mikal Bridges-type)\n- Draft backup big | Depth-focused, playoff rotation pieces | Retain staff continuity, add veteran assistants

Kyrie to HOU makes a ton of sense for them. Outside of Tari Eason, I don't think there's anyone relatively available we'd want. As someone else mentioned, at least a third team would be needed. CHI could be interesting also.

AD to either MIA ($40m in cap space after Rozier's contract is voided) or SAS (Fox as the main target). CHI is another possibility; they have 6 FRPs in the next 5 years (Coby and Vuc as the main target).
