How does Presti do it?
I'm a Nuggets fan and we owe then first rounders for trades I can't even remember
I honestly believe his best attribute is that he's patient. Also as maligned as he is (for legit reasons), Clay Bennett is a great owner who doesn't micromanage at all.
Presti realized his mistake by helping the Mavericks get Gafford and Lively and rectified it with Hartenstein and Caruso. He also values cap space during a rebuild to take advantage of teams who hand out bad contracts..
Was it even a mistake at this point? OKC got Cason Wallace and a swap with Dallas for their 2028 pick. It cost OKC a series sure(he could have made other moves to get the backup 5 they needed) , but in a vacuum... OKC won those deals now i'd say
He rectified it, but yes, not getting another big cost his franchise a chance to make the Finals a year early. I can't discount that. Now that they won in 2025, in the end, it worked out. And I'm pretty sure Cason Wallace won't be on this team once his rookie contract is up. He doesn't appear to be getting better offensively, even though he's played rotational minutes from day 1.
The swap for the Dallas pick is an unknown at the moment and thus can't be counted yet. We still have another 2.75 seasons to get there.
