Had to work really hard (reduce sugar and alcohol, run/jog, lift weights) to be an impact player again. But its possible to reach your fitness goals. My secret weapon is a free ap called “bend.” Do a 15 minute workout each day, don’t skip or take shortcuts. Its just stretches with demonstrations and a timer. You’ll feel 8 years younger in two weeks. You will start feeling athletic again. Throw in a moderate full body weightlifting routine (bench, curls, squats, plyometric jumps) and you can hang with beer drinking 28 year olds, or whatever windmill you are chasing.

Funny seeing this. Was just talking with my cousin how I wake up sore every day and I had been trying to do better about stretching. I usually have 30 minutes each morning wide open. Will be downloading Bend.

Same.

Just did this and the really challenging stuff was the absolute simplest stuff, child's pose and thunderbolt, which require full knee flexion and were deeply uncomfortable. Was invigorating and doesn't hurt now, so I'll check back in in a couple weeks.

Not working for 12 days and checking 0 emails or messages and then returning back on a Monday sure opens up your eyes to how little you enjoy working.

I always thought guys that did yoga were a little femmy. And now look at me, in the middle of the weight room doing downward dog and pigeon with dozens of people around. Your comment is right on, because the poses that look like any idiot could do them make me feel like my hips and quads are ripping off from my body. And ladies are just smiling at me, because they probably do that stuff as a warm up to actually difficult stuff. But for me, OMG I got muscles and tendons getting worked and hanging on by the thinnest of margins. Its all worth it, to me though, because I'm tall and old and it has taken away my back pain and inflexibility. I recommend "bend" because its free and has both illustrated and real world demonstrations... also several different types of stretching workouts (warm up, cool down, full body, posture, etc).

My goal is to retire somewhat relatively early and some of my friends are like "Why? You would be so bored and hate retirement", etc. I have a pretty good job, a great boss, reasonable expectations, etc but still 90% of my stress comes from my job it would be amazing to go to bed on a Sunday night and not have that heavy dread of having to sit at a computer or have tough conversations on things that you ultimately don't really care about and it's only a tough conversation because of people's competing metrics.

I'm saving to semi-retire by 55. I can go work part time at a library, volunteer somewhere, etc. I have a couple things possibly in the works that could change plans and push things by a few years, but I'm with you - I don't want that stress.

I did it a few months ago. Good pay/liked the work/worked from home. In the back of my mind I figured I would take spring/summer off and when the weather turned crappy I'd work again. Nope. I have no desire whatsoever. I have no trouble staying busy (but when I want I can just do a whole lot of nothing) and not dealing with corporate b.s. is priceless.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yup, goal is to retire by 55 and if I can even sooner. The challenge is getting my wife to stop spending all our money now.

I sit in Teams/Zoom meetings all day. I'm tackling 100 projects and there are always new ones that pop up that need to be done ASAP, corporate politics are stupid and there are some people that just love to stir the pot. And like you said, I don't give a rats ass about this stuff. I do envy people who love their jobs (like my wife), but man I would be just fine not working all day and focusing on bettering myself, my family, my house, whatever.

As an update - this was absolutely incredible. It was quite easy to make - the most actual work went into washing, peeling, and chopping a few veggies, and that took about 15 minutes or so - just enough time to sear the roast and prepare your stock. Everything else was fairly hands off.

Definitely recommend.

Don't know if this qualifies as OT or it's for the politics board, but the Olivia Nuzzi thing that dropped tonight is beyond amazing and it's the only thing on my timeline right now. Jaw dropping doesn't do it justice.

Fully retired at 61. Have yet to look back or regret it.

My plans for holiday sales:

Looking at some new cookware, a new cordless vaccum, and possibly a new (cheap) small TV for the office (my current 32 inch one just crapped out after about 15 years of service).

I'm hoping to get everything through Costco because of their amazing return policy.

What else is everyone looking for?

Funny enough, I'm looking for new cookware, cordless vacuum, and a cheap 55" TV for my bedroom as my 10+ year old one is crapping out.

Otherwise I'm going to get socks, see if my shoes go on sale like the usually do, and poke around at other stuff. Nothing seems that great anymore though,

Looking for an Amazon spy device with a clock for the bedroom. Too much phone time at night - Keep the phone charging in another room.
Recently bought a counter-top ice maker and love it. Feel the fridge one will never work properly.

Otherwise, trying to reduce junk in the house. Maybe some organizers or something nice that will replace broken/multiples of the object.

Good show, dear boy! If you can from day one take a portion of that increase and squirrel it away in your retirement fund, you won't notice it now because you'll still be on a bunch more dollarydoos but boy howdy does the littlest bit add up.

Any of you guys have an online photo framing place you recommend. I guess the one thing I'd be especially interested in is deals on framing artwork, or prints and photography.

Hoping to buy a house. So gives some runway for that.
