Ingram went for much shorter bad salary, a “bad first” (as it was viewed at the time), and a 2nd. I’d even say Ingram had much more value than RJ does now, so should keep ratcheting the expected value down a bunch?
Best of luck convincing another team to take on Poeltl’s deal for RJ. I would imagine if anyone was willing, that would have been done last trade deadline or this summer?
But Poeltl missed time this past season because of a balky back that just couldn’t get right. Toronto tried desperately to trade him, and if he was able to play, that would’ve helped a ton. He wasn’t. And the extension was a bit of an “own goal” against Toronto, so far. I would think he’d have to take a lot less than he got. I think it’s similar to when Indy extended Brogdon earlier than they had to and his back gave out.
I’ll leave you be on this topic, though. I’ve said my peace.
They were considering trading for Sabonis with that package. I'm suggesting a step down from that where they try and basically dump salary. It's within the realm and they were interesting RJ, but not Poeltl. The outgoing piece has changed here so it would at least be considered.
Poeltl played in the playoffs and was a part of Toronto's best line ups. He didn't play a lot of games because of rest, injury prevention and previously tanking. The back isn't an issue, the limited minutes is because there are good players behind him. He's been a 25-29 MPG player for his whole career. Click the link I sent above to see that.
The man had back injuries. It's not a secret. Like, everyone knows and talks about it? Heck, even the link you shared shows he played his lowest total of games ever, and his lowest mpg since 2020?

You are sourcing some random guy Mete Makarnaci isn't an analyst. He's a random poster with a blog.
Poeltl was actually more impactful than CMB in that series. The Raptors best line ups were with him on the floor.
Poeltl being inconsistent in the regular season is more about him not playing with a true PG than his back. He needs someone to set him up on defense.
Of course the Raptors were out rebounded by the Cavs. The Cavs have a massive front court and the Raptors game plan was to go small.
None of that indicates an ongoing back issue.

We were offering Sabonis for rj poeltl and 2 firsts. Toronto said no and only wanted to offer 1 first. The kings said no and so the trade fizzled. Keep in mind sabonis was coming off an injury at that point so his value was lower and most people consider his contract to be a bad contract because he is overpaid.
Sure he was in a potential deal for Sabonis but the the context and total deal need to be considered, and the kings wanted extra value to take on the contract. Noone is taking on poeltls deal without real compensation.
Sabonis isn't worth that much. Two good starters is the best value they'll get. I predict they'll panic in typical Kings fashion and sell him for next to nothing or cave for the Raptors deal if it's even available at that point.
Check the Ingram deal. Ingram is worth more than Sabonis, Sabonis isn't a type of player that can really be built with. Defensive Cs are more valuable than offensive Cs. I had interest in Sabonis in the past since I saw stretch potential but his release is slow and inaccurate. I would guess he expires on the Kings and walks for nothing.
The only way the Kings get real talent on their team is if they look into pre agency and trade for an expiring they can woo into staying. That's probably RJ.
I really doubt the Raptors offered any picks in that deal. It was two starters for 1 slightly better starter. Not many Raptors fans were excited about that deal.
