And paying DD not to play for them.
We can go hur dur those guys suck, but it was still a cost they had to pay in part because of an extension that should have never been offered. I hate to get on my soap box, but this idea we can't lose guys we drafted for nothing after their rookie deals is one of the dumbest. Its the most common mistake franchises make--extending their own draft picks to deals that immediately are upside down. Now you have non-difference makers clogging up your cap. Kings would be better off without him and his contract. Period.
The Kings shopped DD all of last season, shopped him again this summer as an expiring before they cut him, and he just signed with the Nuggets for minimal money in August after waiting for a market than never materialized. They shopped LaVine all last season and again this summer. He's still on roster. The Kings would've been better off never trading for DD or LaVine at all. They played both all of last season while Murray rehabbed and won 22 games.
The Kings would've been better off keeping Hailburton and trading Fox a season earlier.
They would've been better off not overpaying Schroder and Monk to add to the most ill-fitting roster in NBA. That collection of moves is what lead them to being a dumpster fire and the reason their former GM is gone.
All Murray did was cost them cap space going forward and this is the first year of his extension. Blaming him seems very, very off.
Huh?
I didn't blame him as the reason they suck. Or say he was the only mistake they made. All that other stuff is off-topic. His deal is bad. Based on his play. You think he's worth it somehow. Good luck to you and the Kings with that. No idea why we are talking about this other stuff or attempting to assign positions to me I never took. Weird.
In isolation I would rather not have his contract than have it but kings got really unlucky. His improvement has plateaued hard. Maybe he will improve again.
