Well, this deal really does an awfully amazing job of almost ruining all the value Kevin Martin would hold to the Pacers front office. Taking on SAR or Kenny Thomas to placate Sacramento? Sure, that makes sense. Taking on both, as well as Mikki Moore, that makes it almost financially impossible to do that deal.

Yeah, you have to consider that to....But they are willing to trade for Murphy/Dunleavy (Huge contracts), soo.... Only if they could ship their bad contracts on a 3rd team...

It's a near straight salary swap though...and yes he signed an extension and is PPP, but this deal works under the ESPN trade checker.

This trade does wonders for Indy. Not only do we add 3 PF's to go with Diogu, Murphy, and Foster. But we also create a log jam at SG with Martin. Martin is clearly a better SG than Dunleavy. But what happens now? We have Granger/Williams/Dunleavy/Daniels/Martin/Rush. On top of creating major log jams, its major log jams with all our money at the same positions for many years. Creates a salary cap nightmare just to put a better player at a very deep position?

It fails on the RealGM trade checker, and yeah, on just this year's salary, it works, but Kevin's PPP status is what really throws off this deal.
Martin's outgoing salary for the Kings would be his current $1.8 million, while his incoming value for Indy would be $8.6 million, the average of his current salary and his new contract, thus screwing the pooch on this deal.

JO has averaged only 55 games/yr over the last 3 seasons, I think there's serious issues there.
He and Artest didn't get along at all, so putting them back on the same team isn't a good idea.
Kevin's already on the same level with JO and Kevin's on the rise, O'Neal isn't
This is a bad idea for Sacramento.

I agree that it really doesn't make any sense. Sac wouldn't request that Indy take on a contract like Kenny's if we were trying to land a piece to help us now. If anything the focus would shift moreso to the vets and Kenny might be more valuable to us from an experience standpoint.
Indy should have a problem taking on Reef though, he'll be back next year and can at least be moved for expirings then. Mikki only has one more guaranteed year after this one so that isn't all that bad either. There simply aren't that many expiring dollars this year around the league so your best bet is to try to dump a bad deal in the process, but do to JO's huge contract that will probably be impossible.

You should simplify trades when possible. For example, this trade works with 2 of SAR/Thomas/Moore with Justin Williams or Douby as filler. For example, Jermaine for Martin/SAR/Thomas/Williams works (best case for the Kings).
Jermaine is a riskier option than Gasol IMO. I haven't seen any Pacers games this season, but it looks like there are some health/age problems with O'Neal, and his FG% is bad. And there's always the Artest-O'Neal problem. I prefer Gasol.
Smills, try a Elton Brand for Kevin Martin deal
Probably is the other all star caliber PF who could be available for Kevin. And it makes more sense for the Clippers taking SAR/Thomas than for the Pacers or the Grizzlies.

Is Martin better than JO? How huge is the difference for the Pacer to take on the contracts of SAR and K. Thomas?
