right, because, of course, Indy is a contender this year along with Boston and Detroit and they really like to pay extra money to an unhappy oft injured star...I think there may be reasons that Indy doesn't do this deal but at least make a coherent argument...

Considering the players and how they are playing it is a good trade and would go through as long as Mihm waives his bird rights. Indy is going to have to do something with O'neal that is for sure. However after Bynum destroyed O'neal head to head this year the Lakers front office might not be that high on O'neal anymore.

If Indy trades O'Neal, they can do a lot better than an Odom based package. All I see Laker fans do is throw out numbers. JO is still the same player, our offense just doesn't require him to be a 20/10 player anymore. Our teams points and rebounds are up. Its the offense, not him. If the Pacers settle for an Odom based package, especially one that doesn't involve Critt, then I would have lost all faith in Bird. As most Pacer fans would.

Agreed with Pacers fans. O'Neal is still better than Odom (whose own injury history rarely comes up while JO is busy being devalued). If they trade JO, it'll be to rebuild, not just get a worse player and a late pick.
Pacers have little use for Odom if they're competing (might as well keep the better player, then) or rebuilding (a 3rd option type paid like a first option). Lakers fans have to realize they have to offer something the other team WANTS in order to get any upgrades.

Lakers get JO, Heat get their pasfirst PG and a shooter while Pacers get cap relief.
Not only do the Pacers downgrade the PF position, but the PG position too? Come on now...

Well, I guess, but I think the upside would be clearing almost $100 millions in guaranteed money.
I think LA could be persuaded to include Turiaf or Miami could part with Dorell Wright though.

Yeah, but the financial situation improves tremendously. Not saying I'd do it, but I'm ok with dumping Tinsley's and Murphy's contract in a JO deal if I can. If we trade JO, we're rebuilding. Tinsley and Murphy need to go in a rebuild. This would do that.
However, I think I'd need something a little better as a long term piece. Maybe go ahead and find where we could swing Odom for more value, but some more long-term pieces need to be involved.

I know this thread is about the Pacers and Lakers, but looking at the proposed 3way - why would the Heat do this? Tinsley is neither one of the best PGs in the league nor an easy-to-handle character, therefor I'd most likely prefer J-Will's fat expiring contract. Smush is redundant, but so is Radman, who's also signed longer and for a bigger amount of money. I doubt a mid-to-late 1st round pick would be enough to make the Heat consider this deal.

POR: LO can play SF, & w/ his size & DH adding some young size as well, they can improce from being the worst post-scoring team in the NBA. Jack is expendable w. Rudy coming in n/y, & w/ 22 players n/y (in current roster, draft choices, over-sea's additions), Portland needs to make some moves
IN: Gets youth & size @ key positions of need, while shedding salery & position themselves to rebuild. This would set up IN to deal Tinsley & ? to a team like Cle who needs a PG, or Mia for an expiring.
LA: Gets JO w/o Bynum
