I'm not really buying that analogy.
In no way could you saying "thanks" possibly undermine the job trying to do as a husband.
IMO, in no way does saying, "This team is imperfect", undermine his job as a GM.
I don't really know what to say, this seems like the silliest thing to nit-pick at.
As far as my undermine comment, that was more directed at him making more specific statements, but the point is you want to show a strong hand. Hell, for all we know he might be dying to make a trade, or even really close to making one, but regardless, you want to be in a position of strength -- the guy who could or could not make the trade and be alright (even if just perceived to be), not the guy who is in desperate need to make a deal.
Saying that this team is "imperfect", or that "he's trying to right the ship" isn't needed. It's obvious. That's his job. Always. His job is to always improve this team.
I personally don't give a crap what he says to us fans and the media as long as he is doing his job behind closed doors. We know the team isn't perfect, and we know he knows that. How often do GMs really say what they mean? Most of the time it'd be detrimental. Who shows their hand if they don't have to?
Hell, one thing most Magic fans know that many other fans probably don't know is that Otis almost always does the opposite of what he has been saying. Maybe we can just consider that he secret way of talking to us Magic fans in-the-know. "I don't see us doing anything"? Bingo. Otis just let us fans know that he is indeed trying to make some moves to "right the ship". Thanks, Otis.Like I said, if Stan can say it, why can't Otis say it? In fact, if Stan says it and Otis doesn't, I think there's a problem.
I don't know, 'cause Stan is the coach and Otis is the GM? Stan can bench them, but not trade them? Stan calls out
everyone including himself? 'Cause Stan looks like Ron Jeremy?
I guess I just fail to see the issue.
ETA: Hasn't Otis already shown his hand to a large extent with phrases like this

So he's already acknowledged they aren't up to snuff yet, he's just not going to say he'll trade to fix that problem.
Come on, you're a Magic fan; you're in-the-know.
