This thread is awful.

Ratliff in his hayday was a great shotblocking presence, but he hasn't been in his hayday in years. I'd pass on him, even though he may seem like the best option...

Anyone comparing Camby and Ratliff should be shot. Camby is one hell of a player.

I'd be all for bring Theo back if there was any chance that he would be healthy for more than 5 consecutive games. But I seriously doubt it.

We have what, 13 guys on our roster right now? Who cares if Theo gets hurt...we still would have one more roster spot, right?

Hey Theo!

I've got a special cure that will take care of all your injuries....

It's called "The Playoffs".

Yeah, you like that.

Vet minimum, oh hell yes.

Scoot over, Birdman, make room for ol' Uncle Theo and ol' Uncle Sammy on the bandwagon.

who's the oldest player to win a title. Payton? I say go for it. Ratliff looked pretty good in the 4 healthy games he was able to play this year.

Tough call here. I don't think Ainge will bend over backwards to sign him. The reason I suggest this is, assuming Pollard is regarded as healthy enough to contribute, he's the 3rd center on the team behind Perkins and the only offensive option at the position, Big Baby, would should be considered the primary backup. I don't sense that Rivers would play Baby at the 4, so Ratliff would conceivably only be used as a specialist. If Ratliff were ammendable to this situation, sure, bring him in. The only consequence would be to knock Leon Powe completely out of the picture.

When talking about adding another big man, I more and more am starting to think that it's a typecast need at this stage. No centers. Think more along the lines of perimeter shooter PF if one can be attained. You're true gap isn't the guy on the blocks, but, an upgrade to Scalabrine which could push Posey into more reserve 3 minutes and buy more rest for Pierce.

EDIT: In my mind, of all the final contract year guys who may get bought out as a nice gesture (i.e. chance to go to contender), the two most fitting to what I described above are Kurt Thomas and 'ole buddy Antoine Walker. Walker, I know, has two years left, but it wouldn't shock me if he and McHale came to an agreement that he's mentor for 1/2 of the year on a young team and Kevin would set him free around the deadline. Believe me, I'm no big Walker fan, but if he accepts playing the role meant for him, finally, his addition opens up more possibilities for the roster as a whole (one example stated in my comments above).

Wow at this thread. Camby is a hell of a defensive player. Anybody see his stat line from last night? 8 points, 24 rebounds and 11 blocks.

Yeah he's not that good.

Theo might block a few shots but not really a DPOY threat like Camby anymore - come on people. Maybe he is worth the vet min - but its not even clear he would be better then Webber at this point..

Theo bad mouthed boston a bit when he left so I imagine he would go to Phoenix anyway. They can have him as far as I am concerned.

Yo sign him if you have the chance for the vet min. He has never been that good of a rebounder but he has shown this year he can still block shots.

Did we all take a time machine to 2001. I don't even want Ratliff on the roster with the 14th or 15th spot.

No, just to the start of this season...He looked good in those 6 games...

The problem is he probably won`t be able to stay healthy. If he does, he can help this team. But that is a big if...

I don't have a problem with Theo, I imagine looking at a squad that isn't as likely to lose 15 in a row as win one might have an impact on his health. That is the book on him anyhow.

Why? Do you think he can stay healthy? I don't. He is obviously of no use to our team if he is always in street clothes.

how often does pollard play? 10mins a game every 8 games? that's what theo would give us. Signing him won't hurt the team. But having a 3rd string big man who is one of the best defensive big men and shotblockers for the playoffs would be a big help. U don't want to have to see leon guarding D. Howard in overtime in a playoff series because perk/pollard/baby were already fouled out.

Yeah I hear what you are saying. As long as he can stay healthy I agree.

If Theo can still defend. That is a very big 'if'.

Sign him in March, to play into June?

When's the last time Theo stayed healthy for 3 1/2 weeks of the season, let alone 3 1/2 months?

Outside of that, it's a great idea.
