For anyone who thinks Memphis is far worse than the Bulls, why don't you imagine the Bulls competing in their division out West. We would have a lottery pick for sure (hell, we might have one this year playing in the East).
I'd do a trade for Gasol, but I wouldn't give up Noah, Gordon, Deng, or Hinrich. I may give up Thabo, but only if we're getting Miller back in that deal.
Tyrus deserves more playing time, but I don't feel sorry for him, nor do I blame management. Joe Smith is playing way better than him, and when that happens, expect to see a lot of the bench. This should give him a little extra motivation going into the summer. The NBA isn't a place for fairness, its a place for competition. Tyrus isn't competing at a high enough level. Even Noah is playing better than him.
If you look for the video of draft day when Paxson traded for Tyrus, you could see Pax CLEARLY state that it would be "a bit of a process" when talking about the development of Tyrus Thomas, and there were a few sprinkles of sarcasm in his tone. He's shown he is a world class athlete, but it still looks like he needs a little more bulk and a lot more strength. Unfortunately, I don't see him developing into a consistent force on offense and defense for at least two more summers.
However, I am very happy we have him, although it will be an agonizing wait for him to reach an elite levele. We didn't wait for Chandler, and that might come back to bite us.
